A month ago I did some data analysis on Steem Monsters and now that the monster market is open for business, I just had to dig into the data and see how active things are so far.
Because who needs sleep anyway, right? It's 1:37am as I'm typing this, but I think it was worth it. :)
I wrote some PHP to look through all the @steemmonsters transfers related to market sales to come up with some interesting data so far:

I'd like to do more detailed analysis and show market values per card, but I'm not quite sure how to go from a card uid like C-ZVMAV42IB4 to the card id. Maybe @yabapmatt can help me with that.

As I was looking through the data, I realized some trade history was hard to track if a card gets combined after the trade. There were 448 trades for cards that were combined after the trade so they aren't included here. I mentioned this to @yabapmatt and he's already made an improvement to keep track of combined_card_id :)
I ran the same report I ran last night again, to track buyers and sellers. The market is heating up!

Part of the reason I wanted to get this published last night (and why I stayed up till 2am finishing it) was so I could enjoy waking up to see how the numbers have changed in the morning. :)
I may keep updating this post over time and now that I can use the API to get the card id from uid, I can do some other interesting things like price discovery! Another important thing I just thought of is how there may be wash trading going on as well to inflate prices. Very interesting to consider where this will all go!

How come it excluded all steem amounts in your data at the top? All my sells and purchases were in Steem
Ah, thank you! That was a bug in the code. I just fixed it and ran the numbers again. :)
Thanks for posting this, you reminded me to go back and check out the new market! There are a bunch of cards that are selling for super cheap right now. The booster packs are $2 each and you get 5 cards so the base value on any given card is around 40 cents. People are selling cards for as low as 9 cents!
I've been thinking about this a bit, and I don't think it's as simple as number of cards / price per pack. Each rarity has different probabilities and therefore different valuations. If the chances of getting a legendary gold are very small and people are willing spend $100 or more on that card, then the value of each pack will go up based on the chance of getting one of those cards.
