Kenny's [Ever-Updating] List of Awesome Hive Communities! (Updated 2.27.2020)

in #steempeak5 years ago (edited)

Just a week into Steem (now Hive) Communities going live, and there are already tons and tons of them popping up! Now the challenge will be building the numbers in them, figuring out which ones to join, finding new ones as they come out. If you know me, then you know I love making lists, so here is my most recent one!

Because I want this post to get out there far, get lots of feedback, and become a very thorough list, I'm giving away all the rewards from it. I've used the wonderfully simple beneficiary function on SteemPeak to "burn" 50% (sending them to @null), with another 25% going to @SteemPeak, and 25% going to @steem.dao (read about the SteemDAO if you're not familiar.)

First, have you heard of SteemPeak?

Before we dive into the new Communities, some of the features, and the list of communities I want to share with you, I feel like it's important to check what front-end you are using to interact with the Steem blockchain. For me, personally, peakd.com is hands down the best around. The best UI/UX, most features, and currently the only place for visual cross-posting (which we will discuss later).

As usual, with the launch of Communities @peakd went the extra mile and released a bunch of other features, including visual cross-posting, which steemit.com doesn't offer.

Here's a Series on Peakd Settings:

Here's the perpetually updated proposal to support SteemPeak on the Steem DAO [where every user can vote (weight based on their vests/SteemPower) on what projects are worth funding, and by how much.]

Communities

So, Steem Communities just launched, after being anxiously awaited for the last couple years. Communities are built on Hivemind, which was launched in early 2019.

So, what is a Steem Community? As @Eco-Alex put it in his post In's and Outs Of Communities:

Think of communities as a special place to put something. Rather than sharing a post with the entire Steem ecosystem, when you post using a community page, or hive-tag your post does not appear on your blog feed. There is an option to share your community posts to your blog feed if you want, but you have to manually do that on each of your posts. If you do use other tags they WILL still appear in those feeds.

I am a fan of having this functionality, to be able to post something that's not a comment, but isn't a blog post on your front page or in your followers' feeds either. I think the cross-posting combined with extreme auto-voting might be an abuse issue somewhere, but the community will deal with it, like we do everything else. @Jarvie wrote a great piece about this: THE GRAND ADVENTURE... Choosing where you want to put your post.

In case you do actually use steemit.com, here's a guide to Communities over there, by @gadrian.

The list below isn't going to include all of the Steem Communities, by any means. It will, however, include all the ones I'm subscribed to, the communities for projects I support as well as many great Steem projects I personally don't use.

A Living Document

I plan on continuing to update this list as things unfold, more communities come into being, and whatever other things change. If you've got a community to add, please do comment below and leave the link as well as a description.

Let's leverage this new piece of Steem to grow the community & bring more into the eco-system. Thanks for reading, and remember to vote for witnesses! (Or at least proxy to someone who does!)

Hey Kenny, great idea to add all communities into one list. We would love you to add our skateboarding community called "Steemskate" on your list! Here is the link if you are interested : https://steempeak.com/c/hive-173115/created
We could also talk about any future collaborations if you are interested!
Thanks for your time bro!
Much love and #SKATEFORLIFE

Thanks for the help!

You're welcome! Thanks for supporting :-)

No gardening 😔

Doesn't look like it yet. Communities like EcoTrain, Homesteaders, and NaturalMedicine definitely have plenty of posts about permaculture, organic farming, and such though.

Thanks for compiling the list. I need to take another look at them too, seems new interesting ones were created recently. And thanks for the shoutout as well! 😉

One big one you're missing is the @steemitbloggers (powerhousecreatives)
hive-114105

But thank you for gathering all these together. I see a few I missed in my initial searching.

Added it to the list, though looking at their community feed it seems they're having the most flood of random content I've seen in a community so far.

Going to be interesting seeing so many have to start moderating on Steem now. I'm glad muting in a community is an option, but it's probably going to start all kinds of drama.

wOw!, that's Quite the list! Isn't it great that you can keep updating this same post indefinitely?! Thanks for sharing this, there's quite a few I hadn't seen before..

and with every community i discover... the question gets harder.. now WHICH one do i post to today!@ l) oh decisions decisions

<3

Ya, I bet within a couple months we'll have too many communities for anybody to actually dig through :-P I'm already starting to see tons of duplicates with the same names popping up, and most will have a hard time differentiating between them I'd guess.
