Theory of Evolution at work in the Steem ecosystem

Orcas

Orcas, also known as "killer whales", can be found in every ocean from the Arctic to the Antarctic. Because of the variety of habitats, different Orca species have developed different hunting strategies and specific feeding patterns, reinforced by "group culture". Genetic evolution has followed, to best cope with different diets.

Notably, North-Pacific "transient" type and Antarctic "B1" type orcas -as the Nature Communications paper linked above refers to them- feed almost exclusively on sea lions, seals and other sea mammals.

Unlike fish-eating orcas who can feed almost continuously on herring and salmon, mammal-eating orcas have to make do with infrequent meals (a dolphin a day for instance). These latter orcas have adapted to store vital metabolic components.

While the genetics of real orcas has evolved to rapidly cope with high intakes of the essential amino-acid methionine (by transforming and storing excess quantities rapidly as cysteine), steem blockchain orcas are faced with a different challenge, that of a sudden abundance of cheap STEEM which they need to store by converting excess quantities into "Steem Power"

In this paper we report live observations of the changes in steem metabolism in a dolphin-eating orca.

Methods

A relatively steem-rich dolphin was captured, tagged and released (see figure below)
dolphinsorin.PNG

After a long hunt which lasted several hours, a ruthless orca managed to catch and eat the tagged dolphin.

Results

Thanks to the high-tech, blockchain-based implant which equipped the dolphin, we were able to observe the metabolic changes in the orca. As we can observe in the figures below, the digestion of the dolphin leads to a surge in liquid STEEM via the "binance-hot" (and in a lesser measure "bittrex") metabolic pathways:

binance.PNG

Novel genetic adaptations, specifically high levels of expression of the "transfer-to-vest-ase" enzyme, the orca is able to quickly metabolize the liquid STEEM upsurge by storing it as "Steem Power" (i.e. pure fat)

transfervesting.PNG

The end result is a healthy (if somewhat fat) orca which managed to avoid letting any dolphin calorie go to waste

orcaatedolphin.PNG

Conclusion

In this paper we detail live observations from the steem ecosystem. By tagging a dolphin which is subsequently consumed by a orca, we were able to measure the variations in metabolite levels in the body of the orca.

We report that, subsequent to digesting the dolphin, the "binance-hot" and "bittrex" metabolic pathways lead to an upsurge in liquid STEEM in orca's body. High expression of the "transfer-to-vest-ase" enzyme (a novel genetic adaptation observed in this orca subspecies), the killer whale transforms the steem into "steem power" which is easier to store and can help the animal traverse longer spells without another dolphin to eat.

steem is a longterm hold

you mean, "steem is a longterm USE" :)

Taking advantage of favorable moments is an intelligent move. Congratulations, @sorin.cristescu!

Why will you do a copy and paste of ordinary comment. I don't think @bluemoon saw this.

thank you, @bluemoon!

My pleasure! I am glad to see Romanians who understand technology and are involved in supporting and developing Steemit. Thank you again!

Hallo Sorin, wonderful metamorphose and story!!! Congratulation, vote, resteem and witness approve. Schöne Grüße und eine frohe Weihnachtszeit für dich und deine Familie. Kadna

Vielen Dank, @kadna! Frohe Weihnachten für dich und deine Familie auch!

Great post!
I had a similar metamorphosis in the last days!

Best regards.

Congrats !

@sorin.cristescu
Awesome, that was funny.
First I thought you had been flagged by orcas or something...
Congratulations my friend, smart move always good with some extra fat for insulation against the winter cold...

Congrats and thanks for your tons of upvotes! Keep up with the good work!

Wow!

Now that really is putting skin in the game.

Fair play and congratulations!

That's fabulous and inspiring, congratulations!

thank you @shanibeer ! I haven't forgotten what we discussed at SteemFest and am working on a concept for you, Ladies. And actually for all "social action" organizations to leverage this blockchain. We should get in touch and discuss this in more detail

That would be good, thank you. I have sent you a message on discord. I have started reading my way through some of the papers :)

Congratulations for achievements. Si multa bafta in realizarile pe care le ai in plan.

This was a truly brilliant post, had a smile on my face throughout, a couple good laughs. Big love your way. Great observations and research.

IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL ARTICLE.

As a NatGeo fanatic I read your article out with a Voice over similar to Morgan Freeman. Its interesting how the system is changing.

I love Morgan Freeman, great actor and narrator! :-)

This is excellent :) We need more people with such faith in Steem on the platform. Congratulations! :D

If you look at @penguinpablo's statistics, you'll note there are many people who are powering up right now

Lol, nice one and congrats mate.

thx! :-)

when I get some extra money I'll buy as much Steem as I can - great article

I'll be very jealous when you do that at these prices ($0.20 - $0.30). I bought my first batch of Steem around $5 ! Kept averaging down since then but I'm still way above $1 per steem ...

Big congratulations for having so much faith in STEEM. I'm after Dolphin II in the near future. I hope we are both doing the right thing.

Consider this: "The right thing" is tightly linked to what we are doing (not independent). That is - if we believe we are doing the right thing we're going to try to be consistent (it's human nature) and do what's in our power to prove (to ourselves, if nothing else) that we had indeed been doing the right thing ... Which, if enough people start acting like that, will influence the fate of steem and take it forward, thus proving us right!

Greetings for a lot of confidence in STEEM. I am in the near future near Dolphin II. I hope we both are doing the right thing.

It's much more than that: we are defining what "doing the right thing" means ...

Funny to see this post in the first place, friends who before were loaded with sp and have powered it all down have been here for years and say steem is fucked, but everything goes in cycles.
I cant actually remember how we met but I remember you as "that guy with good interlect", and believe that for a long term investment you have made a great choice!

I gave a lot of thought to it myself and I still have to find the time to write a post about that thought process.

My conclusion, summed in a few words is "steem is us!".

I.e. - steem is only f**d if we believe it to be and give up.

If on the contrary we doggedly refuse to surrender and stand together, we can achieve the goals we have set and we can go as far as we want.

It's a big difference with investing in classical stocks. I have invested in stocks for 2 decades and realized that with classical centralized businesses, no matter how good the product, how sound the fundamentals, how benign the economic cycle, if the management is inept, the stock prices will never recover.

The price of a blockchain asset on the other hand should depend not only on the management of the founding entity (Steemit Inc.). If I had thought that, I would have cut my losses and ran after the disastrous HF20. Steemit Inc. is only part of the story though, like mother and child. Steemit Inc. is steem's mother and one shouldn't judge the child abilities and prospects by how brilliant or otherwise the mother is.

I completely agree, and also I truly believe that thee Dan is a wise man, eos for dapps, bts for trading and steem to be used in the future for promoting ones products on a free market, and more importantly a meeting ground for like minded folk

It means to going on right direction

haha :D
I'm a new dolphin! Please don't eat me xD

:-D I'm full right now ! Can't eat anything anymore, you are safe! :-)

Haha - that sounds good!!! But what about the next days? ;-)

Glückwunsch! Ich kenne Sorin persönlivh, er ist vertrauenswürdig! ;-)

Your post was really funny to read because I also just recently became an orca.

Nice! Congrats !

Yes... Welcome to the killer whale club!

Great post!
I just managed to start a metamorphosis from plankton to fish.. :D
Compared to you I might seem unnoticable, but time will do the rest! ;)
Greets from germany

The theory of evolution is a bit different in steem: from plankton to fish, then to dolphin, to orca and finally to whale. Darwin would probably turn in his grave ! :-D

Isn't it funny that in reality orcas are killers, yet in Steem ecosystem we sometimes have whales at war?

Congratulations for your metamorphosis! What will be on your diet going forward? :)

Cachalot ? Can a cachalot eat an orca ? I wonder :-D

More likely several orcas eat a cachalot! But if it's a cashalot, who knows? :)

Congrats! Darwin would be impressed of such evolution!

either that, or he'll be appaled ! :)

Love it! Congrats on the milestone and great way to present it to the community! Looking forward to joining you and the rest soon!

I love Steem

Consider this: "The right thing" is tightly joined to what we tend to do (not independent). that's - if we tend to believe we tend to do the correct factor we're planning to try and be consistent (it's human nature) and do what is in our power to prove (to ourselves, if nothing else) that we tend to had so been doing the correct factor ... Which, if enough folks begin acting like that, can influence the fate of steem and take it forward, therefore proving North American country right!

Congrats... you orca now, that great 😃

Great article, so educating and inspiring. We really need to understand that without biodiversity man will seize to exist, thanks

I wish I could understand what this all means! :)

Friends, you have a lot of ideas! congratulate!

Hello...
Good post
Anyone know...
Why the value of the steem is downing?

it's a complex system, hard to understand and not enough effort is being put in explaining its potential to the right people - who could be buyers.

A lot of external circumstances contribute to there being more sellers than buyers.

Congratulations @sorin.cristescu!

Very good moment for your investment @sorin.cristescu and a well written text about it :) It makes me think that I should also take some money and convert it too Steem :P I am still a plankton but maybe one day we can swim together :D

Stay "red fish" because my orca type only eats sea mammals. Had I been a "resident" type orca, you would have been better advised to swim far away from my voracious appetite for fish ! :-D

yum yum yum.

dolphins are tasty :-)
for a "transient"-type orca, I mean

really nice and congrats
