Five Places within Metro Manila to Explore Science with your Kids

in #steemph7 years ago

1.Take a closer look at the moon at the PAGASA Observatory

After a quick drive to PAGASA Observatory in UP Diliman one night, we decide to drop by and see if we could view the moon. We were fortunate to have an in-house astronomer available during our walk-in visit, he gladly assisted us by setting up the telescope so we could have a good view of the moon. We took turns in peeking and he explained kindly to our little one so she can appreciate what she is seeing.

To have a similar experience, it says in the PAGASA page, you need to schedule ahead and you can even have it at a venue of your choice if you let them know two weeks before. There was no payment needed but only a kind donation and simply logging our names on their guestbook for the visit.

2. Expand their minds at the Mind Museum

What’s great about the Mind Museum is that it’s not just a museum for observing and watching science, it’s a place where your kids can play with science and experience it while learning.

On top of that, we loved the 3D movie showings about the Big Bang Theory in the Origins of Life and about evolution in Birthplace. In the Innovations section in the 2nd Floor, we learned about powerplants, different inventions, and the evolution of cars, planes and other technologies. There was also a Physics / Chemistry section where they learned about vibrations, magnets, the table of elements, and many more.

Check out the post for details on where and how to get there.

3. Give them a taste of responsibilities at Kidzania

Kidzania is where children can learn a bit about the adult world. In my little one's adult world, she chose to be a surgeon!

They have their own currency, called Kidzo bills that they "earn" when they do jobs, and later on, spend on whichever they choose, like groceries.

Most kids want to be a doctor at some point in their childhood. Here's my little surgeon heading to the operating room, eager to to do her first surgery. Look at her hold that fake surgical knife like a pro!

What's fun about Kidzania is little ones are able to explore different kinds of profession and learn a little bit about it while they pretend-play in full gear. Not only that, it helped her have some perspective on budgeting, earning, and spending. She happily had 10 Kidzo bills left in her pocket afterwards.

4. Learn our rich culture and history at the National Museum

The National Museum is one of my daughter's favorite places. She claims she wants to be an Archaeologist someday. She was fascinated by excavations of pottery, fossils – a whole peek into history that broadened her mind. She was inspired by the works of art she saw and she displayed interest in watercolor painting that summer we visited.

Planning a visit? Visit their facebook page to see the newly opened Museum of Natural history.

5. Travel to the corners of the galaxy in the National Planetarium

What a great place to bring out the little astronaut in your little one! The National Planetarium is a dome shaped building in Manila, Philippines that has shows on celestial bodies and space exploration projected on their dome shaped ceiling. While waiting for the show to start, there are display of various rockets, planets, tektite rocks, space station models and telescopes. Well worth the Php 30- Php 50 fee for a visit.

Visitors are not allowed to take photos of the inside of the impressive theatre but you can read about the details of our visit, some house rules, and how to get there in this post.

Where will you take your little explorers before the school year starts this June/July?

Thanks so much for reading my post!

Awesome day out and pretty useful info to tourists (like me) too! I'm digging the panorama shots too.

Exposing career paths and inspiring from a young age is the way to go for future generations.

Thank for the share :)
