Maynilad sa mga Kuko ng Agila?

It seems that the President isn’t slowing down on what he called “the oligarchs”.

It has been categorically clarified by the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) that the 25-year concession agreements (1997-2022) with Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (MWSI) and Manila Water Company, Inc. (MWCI) are still valid and subsisting contracts.

MWSS Board Resolution No. 2019-201-CO dated 09-Dec-2019 only revoked the previous Board Resolution No. 2009-72 dated 26-Apr-2009 involving the extension period from the year 2022 to 2037 of MWCI and Board Resolution, No. 2009-180 dated 10-Sep-2009 for MWSI. This action by the Board did not result in the rescission or outright cancellation of the said original contract but giving these two concessionaires the opportunity to correct, renegotiate and agree on the new terms of the said concession agreement.

The concessionaires said they will cooperate and abide by the removal of the illegal and onerous provisions as determined by the Department of Justice and looking forward to a win-win resolution for the benefits of the consuming public.

The good gestures of these concessionaires to reconcile means that they’re willing to accept the terms to be imposed by our regulatory body through the directives of the head of our state. If so, these issues maybe end soon.

Who is who?

The real majority owner of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPI) is an Indonesian billionaire Anthoni Salim, whom making Filipinos believed that his top executive Manuel V. Pangilinan (MVP) owns the conglomerate. A brilliant executive MVP has been indeed led the Metro Pacific through nearly four decades to become one of the country’s biggest conglomerates. Yet, Salim for some reason has allowed Pangilinan to own only 1.6 percent of First Pacific and less than 2 percent of the conglomerate’s firms in the Philippines, according to the company’s public records which anybody can access through the internet, who described by Rigoberto D. Tiglao in his article in The Manila Times on 20-Dec-2019 as “Maynilad owner Salim’s media empire” na sa palagay ko'y tamang sabihin na Maynilad sa mga Kuko ng Agila.
