Learning Sign Language is Fun

in #steemph7 years ago

I was luckily invited by a group of Person with a disability to attend a training on Filipino Sign Language. I was truly excited about participating in this kind of training because I am eager to understand the conversation of a group of people with disability. I am curious and amazed at how they communicate each other.

Learning Filipino sign language is fun and easy to learn with. It is annoying when you don’t know how to make a sign when you wanted to express something. But if you wholeheartedly want to learn, you’ll suffice your best to know it.

Hypocrite people tend to discriminate and criticize a person with an impairment. What they only see is their impairment, not the person itself. PWD’s are normal people like us. They have emotions and feelings.Their impairment is not a hindrance in achieving their goal in life.

At first, I was not able to memorize the alphabet and numbers, but I gradually learned it from practicing every time I don’t have work.

Your body language can do the talking. Facial expression and signs are enough for them to infer what you’re talking.
Their primary language is English. If you encounter a well-educated person with a disability, talk to him in English or if you don’t know about sign language, you write English words on their notepad in order them to understand you. Spelled sign the words if you don’t know the sign of the word you wanted to enunciate. A simple gesture has a meaning for them, so, you must be mindful of your signs so that it may not be misinterpreted by them.

Filipino Sign Language is very important to my work because sometimes I do come across a person with a disability who was a victim of abuse. I can only help and understand them if I know their language.
In courtrooms, sign language interpreters play a critical role in extracting precise information, especially whenever they handle cases involving abused deaf persons. At times, they may fall prey to death threats from abusers and syndicates. Others are left with no choice but to withdraw from the case.

Thank you all for reading.

Wow love your content😍, I want to learn sign language too.

you'll get challenged and at the same time, you'll enjoy it in learning sign language.

You must be very compassionate for helping others and reaching out especially to the less fortunate.

Actually, it's natural to my work for being compassionate to the less fortunate especially to the children.
