Our first week in Davao was absolutely busy, but it was meant to be that way from the initial stages of planning this trip down to finalizing our flights. We came to @dandalion's hometown not only to take a long overdue vacation, but also to carry out a couple of projects we've planned on behalf of @SteemPH.
In SteemPH Davao Home Steading Brigade: An Outreach Event I shared the result of one of the two projects. In this post I will share an update about the meet up we hosted in Davao City.
The primary objective of the Davao meet up is for @dandalion to finally get to meet Steemians from the city. She currently takes care of the communal account @SteemPH.Davao while we are residing 1500 Kilometers away in Malolos, Bulacan. Other goals include covering some aspects of content creation, campaigning for @SteemPH endorsed witnesses, introducing the Steemians to dApps and tools that may help improve their Steemit experience, and get the non-Steemians introduced to Steem, Steemit, and @SteemPH.
Special Thanks to @jacinta.sevilla
Starting from the Bulacan meet up, there is always that one Steemian who went out of his/her way to help us out with the preparations. For Bulacan it was @enjieneer who now leads @SteemPH.Bulacan, for Cavite it was @watersnake101, for Antipolo it was @ruah who leads @SteemPH.Antipolo. The Davao meet up is all thanks to @jacinta.sevilla.
Most of the attendees of this meet up was coordinated through Jass, it was also Jass and her father @gems.and.cookies who found the venue Café Demitasse. @dandalion and I couldn't have found a better venue than the Café. It was spacious, have everything we needed from projector screen, speakers, and internet connection. What's even more amazing is that this was our least expensive meet up. In total we only spent 5,000.00 PHP for the Davao meet up, when all the other meet up before were averaging at 7,500.00 PHP cost.
We have been a fan of Jass from the first time we saw her in the platform, and we are absolutely honored to be gifted the fab art work in the photo.
Topics & Discussion Flow
The Davao Steemians while brilliant at content creation, they have very little knowledge about the other dApps built in the Steem blockchain. They were glad to learn about the many features of @busy, and the opportunities to contribute to open-source projects and be rewarded via @utopian-io. We also covered SteemAuto as an automation tool for some basic Steemit activities, and blockchain explorer SteemD as a great tool to keep track of some basic blockchain information, ones activities, and as a great way to see how authors do formatting in their posts.
We also referred to some of my analysis to discuss activities in relation to Steem and Steem Dollar prices, growth of the user-base, and the changes in payout in relation with prices.
There weren't a lot of questions in this meet up. This goes to show that the Davao Steemians are quite matured both in terms of experience and reputation in comparison to other locations we visited. Some of the few questions were related to usage of tags, EOS and how we see it as a direct competitor of Steem, and about the key roles and responsibilities for @SteemPH.Davao. We tried to answer these questions the best way we can, and our stand on these things are shown in our posts.
We moved on to open the positions for @SteemPH.Davao. We told the participants that our preference is to have the Davao community led by Steemians who are physically located in Davao. While @dandalion agreed to take stewardship of the communal account, we were always convinced that the community will have to be set up, ran, and led locally.
We told the participants about the many roles needed to properly run a community, and ways they can get in touch should they decide to take any of the roles. As of this writing there are already a couple of Davao Steemians who reached out for positions in the @SteemPH.Davao core team.
Local Culture & The Environment
Aside from our usual attendees and presentation, this meet up was made extra special by having Ms. Pamela Janson speak to us and the participants about one of the many issues the world is facing when it comes to environmental preservation. Pam participated in the 2017 Ms. Earth Philippines pageant, and got exposed to many advocacies and advocates for taking care of the environment while at the competition.
Davao while still a very beautiful city, is going through significant growth in terms of population both organically and from people migrating from other parts of the country. Davao is also one of the country's top destinations when it come to white sand beaches. Thus this talk from Pam was of the right subject and timing for Steemians from Davao City to hear. This YouTube video was shown to everyone for us to reflect on as part of Pam's presentation:
Davao Steemian @jacinta.sevilla helped Pam with her presentation by preparing some questions and prizes for the participants.
Here is Pam and @jacinta.sevilla in action:
Also in a attendance was a group called Alampat Productions . They are advocates of promoting the local culture of Davao, and wish to bring their works and projects in Steemit. You can read about them in a recent feature article from SunStar Davao entitled Arts and Culture at VDSF. We are very excited to have them on-board @SteemPH.Davao. We feel they would really add value to the Davao community, the whole of Philippines, and Steemit with their cultural advocacies.
Overall, this is yet another successful meet up made possible through the support from all the amazing Steemians like yourself. We want to thank you for all your support!
