Teardrops: Why It Hurts to Love???!!!

I thought loving someone ssuppose to feel good. How come sometime if not most of the time it hurts. Some people say when you love someone, you are giving him/her the right to hurt you. Is that true or it’s just an old wives saying.

Why does it really hurts to love? It hurts because you give your all, you give your time, effort, heart and sometimes finances...then after giving all of these, nothing, no response. Love unreciprocated. You see love only hurts when you expect something in return. Like the person you love should also give you time, effort, heart and finances.
That’s what you hope to happen but sometimes it doesn’t

In 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 says;
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
In verse 5, love is not self seeking. Love means you don’t expect anything in return. We love because God loves us first. We love and give without any expectations, we love because it brings joy in our heart and puts a smile on God’s face.

I know it’s easier said than done. How can we say love without expectations. We are but emotional being, we like to be appreciated, to be wanted, to be cared for. I think it’s not love that hurts us but it’s ones character. Peoples lack of appreciation and ungratefulness is what hurts us. It’s when the person you loved fails to appreciate the things you did. Then again, those expectations can also hurt us because we expect people to do the same thing for us.

Jesus loved us even though we are unlovable. He loved without expectation, whether people love Him back or not. He was selfless, all that matters to Him was He loved us and that He is obedient to the Fathers command. That’s the kind of love we all meed to posses. Selfless love, loving and giving to people without expecting anything in return. That’s TRUE LOVE.
