My Best Ever Life Advice Which Is Simple And Also Not Going To Make You Feel Great

in #steempress6 years ago

Answered this on Quora yesterday.

The question is generic: What is the best life advice you would give?

And here's my answer, something which I sincerely hope stands out from all the other answers out there that try too hard to make a difference in one package:

When my dad died and after the cremation was done, I had a ton of shit going on in my head:

“Am I going to be okay?”

“How do I move on?”

“How does my mom move on? She has to sleep alone now after being with someone for so long.”

“How will be my brother be like?”

“What’s it going to be like in the house now?”

“Hell, am I going to get a random disease one day and just die off suddenly too?”

It was scary. It was overwhelming. It was stressful and the future certainly looked bleak.

But eventually, I moved on anyway. My mom, brother and I, we all have since.

How did we do it?

I believe we did it the one way which when put into words, will never help make anyone feel better after reading this.

No, you’re not going to feel amazingly inspired after going through what I have to say.

You may not even like me at all after I am done.

Because that’s my best advice.

It’s the best because it comes in small, simple packages filled with sensible decisions.

I didn’t answer any of the questions above at that time. I couldn’t.

I just continued to live. When faced with a decision, I made small, sensible choices that I thought would be good for me and those around me.

I spent more time with my family.

I slept with my door opened so my mom would know I am right there.

I went to school.

I talked to friends.

I exercised and ate healthy food.

I drank a little to escape, but then I controlled it too and made sure I didn’t get drunk and do something dumb in public.

I went out to parties and stuff.

I talked to girls.

I read books.

I worked part-time during college to make my own keep.

That’s it.

There is nothing glamorous here, that is why it’s the best piece of advice.

Make small, simple and sensible decisions you think will be good for you and those around you everyday. Bonus points for you if you listen to your gut more than what others think is better for you. There is no need to scare yourself.

Sooner or later, these small decisions will result in large changes.

And it’ll be good.

I really am inspired as you said, albeit I am thinking a lot without specifics. Perhaps I have mixture feelings.

Specifics? Meaning?

I read it well.
