In the month of August, it appears that Malaysia will be finally hosting its first major regional blockchain event for the year, Bloconomic 2018 at Nexus Connexion Convention Centre in Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur.
The two-day conference happening on the 16th & 17th August looks like a promising turning point for the Malaysian blockchain space as it is the largest event in KL this year that seeks to spur the understanding of cryptocurrencies, blockchain technology, and its real-life use cases.
With a line up of almost 80 speakers, here are 3 who will be taking the stage that you should definitely check out when you are there.
1. TM Lee, CoinGecko
Lee Teik Ming is the co-founder of CoinGecko, one of the most visited cryptocurrency ranking websites in the world. There are over 1,500 cryptocurrencies vying for your attention and what CoinGecko does is to provide you a 360-degree overview for each and every one of them. Do check out their Q2 cryptocurrency report and download it for free here. It contains many insights as to where we have been, where we are now and where we might be going.
One of the earliest advocates since 2013, TM will be part of the panel discussing the blockchain landscape.during the Day 1 conference at 11.50 am.
2. Robin Lee, HelloGold
Thanks to HelloGold, you can buy 99.99% investment grade gold for as little as RM1.
I remember the first time listening to Robin speak on stage, he said blockchain, as revolutionary it is as an innovation, is just a tool to help the lesser fortunate gain access and ownership of gold that can be divisible into smaller chunks easily when in digital form.
HelloGold has even introduced a deposit box where you can exchange unwanted plastic bottles for gold!
Catch Robin as he takes the stage during the Day 2 conference at 2.05pm.
3. Harpreet Singh, Blocklime
Harpreet, seen here coaching young and future blockchain developers at one of his trainings last month, runs Blocklime, one of the top blockchain developer companies in Malaysia. He is a highly sought after opinion leader and we recently shared the stage at last month's Crypto-Rendezvous in Penang.
As blockchain moves up the adoption curve, I predict there will be a huge demand for developers who can build, test and advise which type of blockchain models they should build for their own use and application. Harpreet and his team of young and energetic developers, true their name, are a zesty bunch that can pack a punch. I'm not sure if all of them would be present at Bloconomic but you can catch Harpreet as he listed as one of the speakers then.

Personally, to see Malaysia having its first regional blockchain event in KL this year is a promising sign for our country and I hope it is a successful one. If you are new to cryptocurrencies or blockchain, you should definitely come attend.
Especially in a fast moving space like this, a regional event is a rare opportunity that gathers all the who's who into one place just for you and this would fast-track your learning, understanding, and appreciation of how blockchain is already shaping your lives & mine.

This is highly interesting. This reminds me of Goldmoney that does very similar function and also has one of its vaults in Singapore too.
So far the only difference is that service actually has a credit card that treats its usage backed by the gold saved inside (including deposit with bitcoin at the time), while this one I think it deals with RM only?
Hi there, thanks that's interesting. Hope you'll post some video of the events!
This is actually really interesting @bitcoinmalaysia, especially on HelloGold's concept is very similar to GoldMoney; as in you can transfer the gold from one hand to another.
The only thing is that I think GoldMoney does not have an annual fee; but it does charge more on transactions.
I will definitely give it a try and write a review on it when my account is approved.
