Issue 14- Wait, What? Craziest Crossovers!

Considering the topic, I decided to make this issue a part of my “Wait, What?” Series. Some of these I’ll cover in future issues but for now I want to just show off just how crazy comic crossovers have gotten over the years, especially in light of my Archie Meets the Punisher article. This will be a bit of a shorter article mostly just detailing a few of my favorite off the wall meetups. Nothing that would make sense in a sane world need to apply here! As usual, everything shown is real and if you want to read it, purchasable from any fine comic book dealer, if it’s still in print, or of course, digital.

Archie Vs Predator

Had to start with another Archie property! A more recent addition to the universe, Archie Vs Predator was published in 2015 and went off the wall bonkers. Unlike the previous team up, this series had no remorse for its own characters, slowly murdering them with insidious glee. This story includes death, dismemberment, giant Archie robots, a super healing machine, and Betty and Veronica kicking ass. Oh, and a steroid filled Archie/ Predator final battle.

(What did I just read?)

Godzilla vs. Charles Barkley

So the early 90’s were a weird time. Comics weren’t the only thing that were doing crossovers. Commercials were too, especially in this strange 30 second spot for Nike where Godzilla faced off against then basketball star, Charles Barkley.

It was short, sweet, and insanely stupid but people asked...how? So they decided to answer the question in comic book form with Godzilla Vs. Charles Barkley #1. (As if there were to be more than one issues…) How did Charles Barkley grow to 30 stories tall? Radiation? Mad science? Nope! Nothing so logical. Nope, the reason for the star’s growth is … a magical wishing coin. Because Charles Barkley is apparently Earth’s Greatest Defender. Yes, that is a title he is given even BEFORE his fight with the big radioactive dino.

(WHO MADE THOSE SHOES FOR HIM! AND HOW!)

Sonic Meets Image

Just…. The cover man…

(The...World's...Most...Way...Past...Cool...Comic… JUST READ THAT!)

Savage Dragon! Your Chin! Everyone’s CHIN! WHYYY!

In Super Sonic Special #7 of the long running Archie Sonic comics, the team actually met with various Image characters, including Spawn. I have no idea why, but look at that!

Interesting note, the Archie comic combined the world of the Sonic Saturday morning cartoon with the game itself is a bit of a weird crossover of various cannons.

Kiss meets the X-Men

Did you know that Kiss tried to be superheroes? Yeah, in the 90’s and after there were various comics starring the rock band where they fought evil as their alter egos so of course at some point a rock band crossed over with the X-Men. Sort of. Like three of them.

The comic was even written by Stan Lee but this little story was easily forgotten as different published juggled the right to the band’s comic book iterations throughout the years.

(Yeah….loads of X-Men on THAT cover…)

Superman and Bugs Bunny

Oddly enough, Dc comics has had a habit of their characters crossing over with the Loony Toons. A LOT! Currently there's a few different titles out there such as Wonder Woman/ Tasmanian Devil and the upcoming Catwoman/ Sylvester and Tweety.

The original though was a 4 issue mini series where Superman & Bugs Bunny joined forces. When Mr. Mxyzptilk, a reality bending imp, brings the two universes together, the heroes… well, it’s just freaking insane.

(Is Batman smiling! That’s the craziest thing on this list!)

But that’s about it for this issue. Join us next time as we do some of my favorite out of context comic panels which might become its own series! Trust me, there’s so many of them I just can’t fit them all into one issue! Excelsior!
