My country banned single use plastic bags too. It took some adjusting, but it's okay. Mostly the ban is a token effort because the reusable bags don't last enough to justify their environmental impact vs the single use bags.
At SteemFest4, I used reusable bags. I got some strange looks, but okay.
It's a bit slower because the customer must fetch and unfold their bags for the seller. With single use bags, the seller has them deployed and ready to go.
Plastic packaging wraps give good hygiene protection. As futile as the plastic bag ban is, it is a step in the right direction. We need to find alternatives.

I just got back to Thailand yesterday and now that you mention it, you are absolutely right. It's quite insane and I am guilty of using the bags as well. It's going to take everyone to make an effort. The vendors are doing what they are in the habit of doing. For some items that are prepackaged I honestly don't know what they can do. I love the street vendor vibe here.
Right. The most I didn't understand is the straws, I can drink the cans and bottles directly normally.
There will be unintended consequences. Here in the U.S., some places have banned plastic bags. The problem is that the reusable bags commonly used don't last long enough to make up for the extra material they use. It ends up being arguably less environmentally friendly. I'm not sure how things will go in Thailand but I could easily imagine everyone going to supposedly reusable bags that end up only being used once anyway...
Yea, aren't those reusable bags even worse... you are right, unless you have a supermarket right in in front of your door, you won't carry those bulky plastic bags everywhere with you, just end up buying more and more plastic bags... hopefully with the ban, most will bring their own bags when shopping.
