The more people become desperate to achieve an ambition, the more they continue to expose how inordinate their intentions are.
The issue of Owerri zone adopting a particular candidate for the 2019 general election shows that some people have ganged up to destroy the zone and restrict possible developments coming to her people, but we will not allow them as the well being and development of the entire Owerri people is of most importance than that of the selected few.
I would have remained calm, but as a patriotic Owerri man, I decided to set the record straight and urge Imolites to disregard the said adoption as it does not in any form reflect the true wishes of Owerri people.
In the first instance, when Owerri people resolved to pursue the governorship of the state in 2019, a summit was held in Egbu for the zone last year and it was largely attended by all classes of Owerri people devoid of party affiliations. I remember the presence of H/E prince Eze Madumere, the deputy governor of Imo state, Distinguished Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, Senator representing Owerri zone in the national assembly, Chief Martin Agbaso, Sen. Chris Anyanwu, Sen. Bright Nwanne, Chief C.Y. Amako, Chief Gibson Oyiga Njemanze, Okenze Obinna, Commodore Peter Gbujie, all the house of Reps. Members from the zone, the Nine house of Assembly members from the zone and other notable sons and daughters of Owerri were physically present.
But as 2019 elections continue to draw closer, these eminent sons and daughters of the zone in order to put the overall interest of the people above their selfish interests discovered that it will be detrimental if they do not expand the possible options for the zone. This led to the emergence of some Owerri people as Deputy Governorship candidates of some major political parties in the state while others resort to supporting candidates who are not from the zone.
It is worthy of recognition that in a time like this, when the political permutation of the state has been greatly adjudged to be unpredictable, the best thing a patriotic Owerri man should do is to enlarge the options of the zone so as to ensure that Owerri zone remains relevant after 2019 general elections.
I hereby condemn and ask other well meaning sons and daughters of Owerri and Imo state at large to disregard and consider as thrash the purported news of adoption of any candidate by Owerri people and also mandate the leadership of Owerri Youth Elders Forum (OYEF) to render within 24hours an unreserved apology Mr. Jude Opara (Deputy governorship candidate of YDP), Mr. steve Nwoga (Deputy Governorship candidate of APGA), Lady Ann Dozie (Deputy Governorship candidate of Accord party), Prof. Placid Njoku (Deputy Governorship candidate of APC)amongst other Deputy Governorship candidates of their political parties from Owerri zone whom the group tarnished their reputations.
Owerri people cannot be lured into taking a myopic and growth retarding decision of adopting a candidate as it is not healthy considering varieties of options at our disposal. We are selfless, and what is sacrosanct to us is the well being of our people and the state at large. The few names mentioned as witnesses to the adoption shows that it is not the wish and option of Owerri people.
I REMAIN YOURS
MBAZUIGWE DAVIDSON ASIKOGU.
