Ok, so I have the chance to taste Louis XIII once every year. Their Brand Ambassador stops by our store one time, and pours us the gold. This is expensive stuff, after tax, it's a bit over $3,000 USD. By no means do I think anyone of you is going to run out and buy a bottle after reading this! LOL! This is for after Steemit makes it big, and we are all rich! Then go out and celebrate with a bottle... :)
So, a brief rundown... Cognac is a brandy made in the Cognac Region of France, kind of towards the South, on the Western side of the Country. It is primarily made from a white grape called Ugni Blanc. For all of you Italians, it's the same thing as Trebbiano. Basically, the grapes are fermented, then distilled into something called an eau-de-vie (pronounced O-de-vee), it is colorless at this point. It is then aged in oak barrels, which is where the color comes from. After it has aged for a minimum of 2 years, it is a Cognac!
Louis XIII is one of the best, and definitely the most well known Cognac in the world. It is also one of the most expensive. This is made from grapes from the Grand Champagne region of Cognac, it is the best place for growing....also, it has nothing to do with the bubbly wine. Louis is a long-term project, and takes 4 generations of Cellar Masters to make the final blend. You read that right, over 100 years of blending creating has led to the bottle that is available at the store today. Now you can see the reason for the hight price!
This is always a treat to taste...
Nose: Not as hot smelling as I remembered, dried orchard fruit, sweet flowers, orange citrus notes.
Mouth: a little hot, cinnamon spice, orange, a little stone fruit-nectarine or peaches, and a touch of nuttiness.
After: the cinnamon spice linger a little too long, hides the fruit. REALLY LONG finish.
Well, needless to say, if you ever get a chance, don't pass it up! You can say that you tasted one of the top spirits in the world!
Thanks for following along, your upvotes and resteems always mean a great deal to me!! Have you looked at STEEMPUB lately? It is growing fast!! New home-brew articles, Champagne trips, and even an upcoming Steemit Beer exchange review!!
Don't miss out on all if the fun!!
Cheers from Texas!!
Lucky man! I had an ex whose Mom had gotten a bottle as a gift. At a family dinner I was able to get myself a half pour, I remember it almost exactly as you described definitely remember the long long finish with the hot cinnamon taste, I even remember saying to my girl at the time that I was glad it lasted so long so I didn't feel like I had just wasted $50!!!
That's a damn fine gift! We normally spit during our tastings, this is one of the few that we all actually drink. LOL!
LOL, imagine the looks someone would get if they did spit!
Wow, now that's a very special treat! And thank you @thewineman, for your expert tip on the Margaux as well ;)
it's always fun to taste it for free! :) I hope you do a post when you open that Margaux, it's a pretty special bottle.
Considered selling /auctioning it, but I don't know how that works if it hasn't kept well. Seems like it would be better enjoyed on a very special occasion.
If and when I open it I'll have to do a Steemit post and give the @thewineman a shout out :)
That's always an option, but unless it was cellared properly, it's tough to do. Retail on that bottle is around $350-400. If you have had it for that long, you might as well drink it!
Excellent last point! It should be sipped, savored and enjoyed!
I think that's why they made it.. LOL!
Hey, @thewineman , added a new post to your Steempub collection :)

Damn 3k per bottle, you would be pissing gold :(
Is it really worth it?
To me, it's not worth it. You are paying a lot for status, but I can understand that. There is a Cognac called Tesseron, they are expensive also, but worth the $$. I think their most expensive is $1500, still a ton of money, but you could buy 2 bottles! :)
What would you compare it too, I don't have the money for that kind of things.
It's tough to compare to anything else. The Hine Rare VSOP Cognac is really good for the money, at around $80. Believe me, I don't have the money for them either.
