ah harrr! ok I am no good at pirate talk, me hearty peoples, I sound more like Alan Partridge :) So with my terrible pirate speak I shall let you all know I has gone and got it I has, in slightly better english I have mentioned to a couple of you that I would really like to do something to contribute to the group, my stacklet is so small tis embarassing to try and find something worthy of donating, so this super raffle3 I can only try to get a ticket, however I am always one to look to the future and I have mentioned I am trying to design an 'SSG community' piece of silver that I can then donate to a future raffle. I have played around the last few days with skulls, and flags, and swords, and bones, and seriously I cannot draw bones! I wanted something that reflected pirates and coins and said thank you from me, in a sense, :)
After much thinking and scribbling, and discussing with my daughter, I have to mention here that I do not identify as an artist either :) I just draw when I need to, if you want a real artist then my second daughter is amazing, all my children have a talent for art but my 17 yr old is truly gifted, so I ask her expert advice :) I showed her what I had achieved so far and just as I expected my daughter spotted immediately what was needed and so together we have come up with something this was it at first:
then after an hour or so of scribbling
I would have asked her to draw it but she is working very hard already, she studies at college, and so you have to put up with my efforts :) I am happy just to get the design together and my thoughts are now working over time on how I first make this in bronze, and reduce its size, the finished item should weigh roughly an ounce, to make anything costs me a lot in silver so the end one has to be smaller. As an example of how much this costs it cost me £66 to make batman the one I showed you the other day, he weighed 28g roughly, so its basically say £70 cost to make a 1 ounce piece for me.
there are a number of reasons I have to do it this way, it would be way cheaper, possibly? to pour something like this, but it would be either a generic mould bought, which would not be my design, no good, or it would mean buying a bespoke mould, cost again, or it's this way, in which I model it first in bronze, make my own mould, then cast and fire it.
I prefer it this way it's my work the whole way from design to mould to finished product. Just call me a control freak :) this design is a lot more simple than I would usually attempt, mainly because I am still very much at the learning stage and I am working with expensive material, if I can get a good result from this then I will become braver and add more detail, one of the fabulous things about getting to work with bronze is I can make bigger projects, I am really looking forward to starting some dragons I love all forms of dragons and will be working on starting some designs soon, my daughter wants me to do a pirate ship so that's in the works too. So many ideas :)
so I hope my lovely ssg friends like my design I really hope it works well in silver, and I also hope you all have a fabulous day
and on that note I started as Alan Partridge so I shall finish as Alan Partridge :)
my thanks, respect and love to the ssg community
Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold

Bank Owners on the Back Side... IN GOD WE "TRUST" THE PLAN...
hiya , well in the words of one of my favourite intelligent men ever mr slavoj siszek ' i prefer not to' :) pretty sure you will find an artist who will do such a design but as i mentioned i dont identify with being an artist :) i have just made a tiny rabbit from alice in wonderland though and i love it :) many thanks for dropping by my friend i hope you have an excellent day much respect to you
This Works for me on #PirateSunday...........@beckieg
may i confess at this point that i literally glowed with pride when i read your comment, you made me one happpy bunny today thank you, i am itching to have my bronze delivered am even contemplating going back to the site and ordering some more on super fast delivery because i dont want to wait the full seven days for the other to be delivered :) playing with super shiny metals is terribly addictive :) a huge thank you for coming to visit me i really appreciate it and you really made me monday brilliant i hope you hae an excellent day and my full respect to you always
Very cool I love the design and can't wait to see how it turns out! I know @dixiesilverminer would do a nice job of making this I can imagine it in brass, copper and silver combined maybe the skull silver, anchor and hat copper, and ssg part in brass. I haven't seen your batman yet so don't know how you do it I'm gonna look now it sounds interesting for sure, casting metal is so much fun :-)
hiya good to hear from you i wanted to do it in silver with gold inlay :) thats my plan anyway :) i totally agree with you the excellent dixiesilveminer would have made a superb job and i was inspired by watching his videos he was the first i watched i think when i found ssg and that night i think i read every post in the group lol and then binge watched pouring videos and thus my fate was sealed i wanted nothing more than to make silver art, on top of the inspiration they are both lovely lovely people and i have found it hugely helpful not only watching the videos but the fact that they take time and effort to come talk to me here and always have kind words and encourgemant for me i am a nervous wee soul and probably would have not had the confidence to explore this it is their lovely comments that always do me the world of good and i place great value in getting a comment from an expert such as dixie i know i am at the beginning on a steep learning curve and i make mistakes but i learn from them and i am loving every minute of it, art is something i bother with when i am in the mood and thats isnt often it was only when i made my first silver piece then my world lit up and i was like oh my i could make so many wonderful things i just need to get the ideas out of my head and into the silver :) more so i needed to find a way of making a living to support my kids and i and i am devoting my time and efforts to improving to the best of my ability and with a vision of the future :) lately i have found bronze too and that is something i will also play with :) thank you for visitng me and your kind words i really appreciate them much respect to you
Love It!!! ☠💀☠👊
thank you very much i really appreciate your kind comment and i am glad you like the design it ws my daughter who brought it together though i had drawn the skull and the coins were in place but originally i had drawn a sword i didnt really like the sword though and it didnt sit right my daughter saw another i had done with an anchor and suggested putting the anchor on the side and it worked then and i was happy now i am waiting for my bronze to turn up so i can have a go at the first stage of bringing it from paper to precious metal :) i am rather excited :)
Oh let's put that picture on a Black Flag! Set it upon a; Sloop, Frigate, Galleon, whatever class you fancy. So we can say, "Aye, there sails Capt Beckie's Jolly Roger."
As a Pirate with a Gothic bent a lot of my Booty Bank Silver have in one form or another a Jolly Roger or Skull. Fun, fun, fun!
wonderful to hear from you my lovely friend you always bring a smile to my face thank you, and now i feel the urge to make a flag lol we really should have a flag :) maybe even a flag design comp or something i once saw a coin with an excellent tree of life design that i believe was designed by one of us, the name escapes me for the moment but i have coveted said coin ever since, there is a huge amount of excellent art/design talent within this group, together we could come up with a fab design! would love to see what dixie ideas would be, a big thank you for visitng me i hope you have an excellent day my full respect to you
@beckieg what an epic item to be constructing and all the more meaningful because you are doing it from start to finish!! For someone that only "draws when" they "need to" your talent is so far above mine that believe me you are an artist! I am seriously in awe of your skill and will repost this for sure!! Thanks for sharing!
a huge thank you dwing i really appreciate your kind words, though today my poor fingers hve now gone on strike lol i tried to have a go at modelling the skull in bronze but i used too small a piece and the hat would not work and now i decided time to chill try again next time , still its all a learning experience and a fun one at that :) many thanks for visitng me in my little corner of steemland i really appreciate your friendship i hope you have an excellent day much respect to you
