When I first started buying silver and gold in 2010 it was for pure weight. I didnt care if it looked nice I was only interested in its price over melt.
I'd look for the best deals and bought mainly Canadian Maples and cheap generic silver and gold at my local coin shop.
That didn't last.. Before long i was buying fancy coins like Kookaburras and Lunar coins from online retailers.
Then it got real bad, I started ordering rediculously high premium items from the Royal Canadian Mint
My last crazy purchase of a premium coin was this one..
I paid $45 over spot price for that 1 oz coin! That's just nuts!!!
I keep telling myself I need to get back into buying the lowest cost bullion I can but it's tough. I'm impulsive and these things are just so pretty. Insert sexy coin art pics..
That's a hot Japanese girls butt, what's that worth?
I guess I'm a hybrid stacker. I stack for weight, I do buy low cost bullion but I also splurge on items with a higher premium. I love to collect this stuff so having some unique items sprinkled into my stack keeps me interested and having fun
What's your angle? Are you stacking purly for investment purposes or collecting as a hobby? Does it even matter if we're having fun?
This is money that could be spent on stuff that would be valueless in a few years right? This stuff won't
Plus don't these metals look a whole lot better than some dirty worthless paper? (Fiat)
I'm @goldenarms and I'd love to hear from you guys. Leave a comment down below and and upvote if I'm worthy?
Have a great day and keep stacking!
I started as a collector, turned into a weight stacker, now I'm a bit of both.
Still stacking it tho no matter what your buying..aslong as it's got precious metal content! Haha
At the very beginning, I stacked mainly higher premium pieces. My first piece ever was the 1 oz gold PAMP Suisse Fortuna bar. Jesus, what a beauty that thing was. I ended up needing the money (2012-2013) so I sold it at my local coin shop and kind of got out of stacking for a while. Then I bought another 1 oz gold Credit Suisse bar, much less beautiful. Again, needed the money and sold it. I had a couple silver Maple Leafs, Philharmonics, and I think one Panda. These were the days of me being obsessed with Silverfish VT's channel and I would watch people like BigStackMcGee and the like. Then I started heavily stacking silver, mainly tubes of generic rounds with some 10 oz NTR bars and stuff. Got to around 350 ounces silver and then sold it all to put a down payment on my first house. Been stacking again ever since then. Now I stay away from generic silver rounds and focus mainly on government coins, poured bars, etc. These are the things that I think are beautiful. In the beginning, I did this with the gold. I thought it was the most beautiful thing ever (and it was). Then, I went for generic silver (for sheer weight), and now I'm back to beauty and my personal value I see in my stack. So you could say I've gone full circle. :) Keep stackin' my brother from the north.
Thanks for the detailed reply @vegansilverstack. Also selling to buy a house idms a good thing. Now you're back to stacking is even better! Everyone loved silverfishvt the legend
Sweet collection! I collect and stack too. Do you like the Queen's Beast coins? It seems like they'd fit right in with your diverse silver!
I do love them but I've got none. I slept on the first the lion amd now I don't want to pay more to gettem. Lions my fav of all em so far. I think I heard the greyhound is next?
I saw the white greyhound listed as next on some websites, but Wikipedia is showing the falcon as next. Oh well, doesn't matter to me as long as they mint them all!
I'm not really sure what I am. I bought a round of generic bars several months ago when I had recently discovered Schiff, Rickards and Mannarino. Then I realised that coins were way cooler than bars, so I bought a whole bunch of Maples. The sad thing is that I store my stuff offsite, so I have never even held any of my new coins :'(. I haven't even seen a silver coin in real life! So what I do instead is spend my evenings looking at photos of your supply that you so kindly share with us. Your stack is awesome man, it makes my trousers feel uncomfortable. Makes me want to do my own collecting but metals are expenny here in NZ.
Another kiwi!👍
Pms are really expensive here ! And there's not much choice unless you buy overseas then you get hammered for shipping😩
Hello there! Yeah I don't think these guys realise how lucky they are to be able to stroll on down to the "coin shop" and buy some nice stuff for very little over spot.
NZ hey..that's pretty cool. Do u buy from a company that stores your metals? That makes me nervous as I dont trust anyone. Thx for stopping by my friend from far away!
No I wouldn't trust a company either. No worries, looking forward to more of your posts!
You got some nice metal my friend! To answer your question though, I am both but with the expenses of having three kids I have turned into more of a stacker rather than collector.
Well it sounds like you're stacking kids too haha. Thanks for checking out my posts @dwhntx Stack on brother!
Lol I've stopped stacking those. Maybe with the next wife though 😉
Lol good luck. Everythings bigger in Texas so u need a big family
Hybrid stacker is a good term. I'll put myself in that category.
There's room for more, especially fine Canadians 😊
What a great collection you have. Must be addictive, I have a similar problem with Cryptocurrencies.
Have a great day...and I did upvote!!
Thanks for that. I plan on dabbling into some cryptos soon too but any profits I'll put right into metals. They're more fun to hold and look at 😝
Cryptos are a bit exciting, I have a you tube channel if you want to have a look. Bitconnect is an interesting space...check it out, but be cautious.

I am a stacker and collector and focused heavily into Mexican numismatics.
Kaboom!!! That is a handful of Mexican awesomeness! Well played @silverino. I know what you're about already tho..you're a YouTube legend afterall 👊😎 Thx for dropping by bud
Im just getting started and I really want to add more weight to my stack, but I really just don't like generic bullion rounds that much. Maybe I should get silver eagles? but those are sort of boring too, uuuuhhhh I don't know what to buy sometimes. But I have bought quite a few poured bars and premium coins. Just having a tough time deciding between silver eagle coins or generic rounds. Even though there is a premium on the eagles buy back prices are higher on them than the generic, plus it's a coin, not a round.
Sound points, I'd go with the Eagles cause they're so liquid plus like u said..the buyback will be better
That's what I have been leaning toward. Anyone would buy an eagle coin if it came time to sell.
Dont you dare do it Golden Arms
Now I dont know what to do? I wanted to give u a lil tip but I dont want u to give me more steem haha
Totally a collector man, I'd say maybe 20% of my stack is generics with the rest semi-numismatic pieces or government coins for years sets I'm completing.
Your Tsukiakari round from Satosan Metals is one of my favorites man. Not alot of them floating around. If you want a great semi-numismatic piece you really need to add one of our Temptation of the Succubus Rounds. We'll even take STEEM/SBD as payment since your ballin these days.
They're awesome pieces! I just have so many items on my list it's hard to keep up. The three different versions I saw you show are amazing! Me ballin..haha hardly my friend 😊
You know when I started it was purely stacking weight but it became more collecting there are some beautiful coin and bars out there so I believe I am a reformed stacker and an addicted collector
It's tough to just stick with generic when u see so much cool stuff out there eh? Cheers @kevinkarron
SILVER PORN :D me likkly
Yeah it's fun to look at for sure! Thx for checking out my blog 👊😎
metals beat paper anytime ... upvoted
100% agree. Thx for the upvote action too!
Any type of silver is good in my books, If it has silver in it, it's a bargain. Cheers
That's because you're a big silverbug. Thx for the support my friend!
Only been stacking since March just past my 1st goal, but I do like to pick up the pretty proof coins now and again. Gonna focus on picking up more gold and maybe doing some pouring of my own by the new year.
Oh that's pretty cool. I follow alot of the silver pourers on YouTube. Some really cool stuff is out there and it looks like alot of fun. You'll have to share with us if u do 👍😎
You guys are making me fall in love with those silver and gold coins, making me want to start collecting too! Sigh, I don't know if I want this addiction, but probably a good investment.
Nice post
I just started buying silver at the beginning of this year. First purchase was some generic silver rounds, because they were at spot as an introductory offer. Then after a few months silver dropped and I picked up a couple silver maples. For me, buying bullion is about diversification, so I'm trying not to be tempted by the gimmicks and designs, though I did buy one Superman shield. I also buy 18th century British provincial copper tokens periodically, but that's more about collecting than accumulating value.
There's still alot of variety in cheaper generic luckily. U don't have to buy the same so u can still have a variety. Thx for dropping by my friend. Keep stacking!
I started just trying to meet some weight goals with a little money I had set aside. It was the most impactful decision of my life, though! I'm now a hybrid stacker and try to find that nice balance between spot price and premiums that I feel will appreciate. Not saying I ever want to sell it but I'm always trying to trade to increase my position! Now every free cent goes to the shiny stuff, I just can't get enough! I'm trying not to get sentimental about it because the day may come where I need some liquidation but I'm not going to let it go easily! Great topic, man! 👍
You sure put a lot of work into this post...
Have a nice day...
