Hi, I stopped into my small town jeweler, to see if they could resize a ring. Walked out with Killer Silver in my hand at an Amazing price!!
The jeweler let me know that he "doesn't resize silver" never heard that before, but OK.
On the way out of the little shop though, I spied something in a tall narrow display case by the door...or maybe I smelled it, I'm not sure.
It was a 1991 200 year Anniversary of the Bill of Rights one ounce medallion, put out by Chrysler, available only to "Private Screening" attendees. Then the dies were broken.
Now Don't Leave Me Yet...This is Where the Magic Starts..
JB: "How much is it?" (expecting jewelry store pricing)
Shop Owner: "What's silver going for?"
JB: "Shit. Like $14.80"
Shop Owner: grabbing cell phone to check spot "How about $15.00?"
JB: (thinking that question mark was important) "Got any more silver?"
Shop Owner: I think there's a bar in there
Out comes:
Wow! A factory sealed Englehard 10 ounce bar. I tried my best to seem unimpressed.
Tentatively, I took the bar.
JB: "So how much ya want for this?"
Shop Owner: " Oh I don't know, probably the same. $150".
An Englehard 10 ounce for basically spot price. I pulled my card out faster than a single action Colt.
Shop Owner: "Can't take that, cause it costs me money"
JB: "Sit tight, I'm going next door for fiat"
I made the trek 3 doors down to my tiny community bank, and pulled out the cash.
Five minutes later, we we rolling out with the best silver deal in a long time.
I left my number and told him if he gets other silver, to give me a call.
The day started as a bust, then found some killer silver, then did some metal detecting at a beach where the water level had been lowered.
Two rings added to the stack!
And the day wouldn't be complete without finding a trashed cell phone...
Nearly a dollar's worth of change (hey there's a wheatie in there) and the mandatory sinker arrangement.
