Today's beauty was minted by the Royal Mint in London , the Royal Visit never happened by the way ! Mintage was a touch over 200,000 . The coin weighs 28.28 grams , is 38.61 mm in diameter and was minted from .500% silver .
The obverse of this coin features a bareheaded King George VI facing to the left surrounded by the legend KING GEORGE THE SIXTH .
The elegantly simple reverse of this wonderful coin shows a silver fern leaf (endemic to New Zealand) surrounded by the four stars of the Southern Cross which in turn are surrounded by the legend NEW ZEALAND CROWN 1949 .

This coin specimen is very, very nice. I can see the silver patina on both sides. I love ferns, and my favorite is the Boston fern that grows their leaves so long, they are best displayed on tall pedestal side tables.
