Silver Stacking History: 1926-S Oregon Trail Half Dollar

The Oregon Trail half dollar is one of my favorite commemorative coins. These Oregon Trail half dollars were produced from 1926-1939, over a decade. The 1926-S had a mintage of 83,055. This half dollar honors the Oregon Trail. The Oregon Trail was the main road to the West before Route 66. The Oregon Trail half dollar was designed by James Earle Fraser. Fraser's wife, Laura, also worked on designing the half dollar. James Earle Fraser is most famous for designing the Buffalo nickel. The obverse depicts a Native American in front of a map of the US. The reverse depicts oxen pulling a wagon train. The wagon train was the main means of transportation in the West.
