Silver Stacking History: The Story of Ted Binion

in #steemsilvergold7 years ago (edited)

This Morgan dollar came from the Binion Hoard. The Binion Hoard came from the estate of Ted Binion. Ted Binion was a wealthy casino executive. Ted Binion owned the Horsehoe Casino in Las Vegas. Ted Binion was a firm believer in sound money. Ted was stacking before stacking was cool. He constructed an underground vault that contained over 100,000 silver dollars. Ted Binion was murdered by his girlfriend. It was believed that Ted's treasure played a role in his murder. Ted's girlfriend was a gold digger who killed Ted to get his silver. After Ted's death, his silver dollars were sold to the public. Goldline was the dealer that sold the coins, marketing it as the "Binion Hoard." All silver dollars from the Binion Hoard were slabbed in NGC holders with green labels.

I heard Binion may have had Silver dollars, stashed in walls, that may still be there.

In the old days, maybe the 1960s, some Vegas slot machines paid off, in real silver dollars. Imagine, 1000 silver dollars dropping out.

That would be an amazing sight. Believe it or not, there are still Vegas slot machines that still dispense silver. These special slot machines are called "Silver Strike" slot machines. "Silver Strike" slot machines award 1/2 oz silver tokens as prizes. I might show one of these silver casino tokens in a future post

I'd love to see that!

Thanks for the history lesson!

that was great info about his murder :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Quite a story! Interesting they would put all his coins in holders.

they knew they could profit off his story and get the max for the coins by labelling them :)

Whatever works!
