My Latest Bullion Purchase: Hi Ho Silver... AWAY!

I did two enjoyable things this morning. The first was to find this Lone Ranger clip in order to add some panache to this post and the second was to purchase my very first monster box of silver... albeit a mini monster box.

I opted for 250 x the "4 nines" legal tender kangaroo coins. I like legal tender coins. I see them as having dual purpose and less likely to be re-categorised by rogue governments in a policy reshuffle down the track.

Indeed there have been stories of individuals being able to move legal tender bullion through American airports without declaring the metal value by simply saying that the legal tender value is what should be declared and, being much lower than the metal value, allows for a smaller declarable amount. No one knows what the future brings, but I like the chance of a little more flexibility that such stories hint at.

So here's the product and a blurb courtesy of this page:

A brand new coin for 2018 and issued as Australian legal tender the coin’s reverse portrays the classic red kangaroo design by Dr Stuart Devlin AO CMG, goldsmith and jeweller to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II together with the Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark and the year-date. The coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination.

As a Perth Mint first, the coin includes an authentication feature on the reverse. In the form of a micro-laser engraved letter ‘A’ which is within the first A of AUSTRALIA, it is only detectable under a magnifying glass. The authentication feature is designed to make it significantly more difficult for the coin to be counterfeited providing peace of mind to customers.

Unlike most Perth Mint coins these are not individually encased, rather come in protective acrylic tubes of 25 coins. There are then 10 tubes to a ‘mini’ monster box of 250. There is unlimited mintage.

I own a number of the older mintage versions of these coins. I only learned today about the authenticaiton feature so either I've never noticed it before (I've never used a magnifying glass on them) or it's a new feature on the 2018 coin. Either way I'm keen to check it out.

I was prompted to make another silver purchase by Mike Maloney's analysis in the following recent goldsilver.com video. If you've not seen it yet, it makes for compelling reading and was also picked up on and written about here.

Have you thought of picking up some coins lately?

Thank you i will check out the coin ! My upvote is small, but you've got it,my friend. Please checkout my animation videos if you have time. I'm the only one animator on dtube! Thank you.

Those coins are to save and sell them someday or is it for something else? Is it better to buy silver than gold?

Hey @yanes94! I buy them as a store of value although they'd make nice gifts too. At the moment silver is historically very undervalued compared to gold and so it's the pick. For those with a lot of funds however, it becomes physically hard to store kilos of silver so gold can be better as it's a denser store of wealth.

I understand, and if we talk about investment that would be better ... a cryptocurrency and save it for a good time or gold?

great pickup ive never bought that much silver at once before :)

It's funny, no matter how long I've been buying metal I always seem to get a kick out of collecting it. It's like opening a Christmas present or something. Thanks for reading 😊

Absolutely it's like Xmas everyday, I was deprived as a child so get a buzz everytime a package drops through the letterbox :-)

250 four nines .... that's a lot of rooooos :):):) I didn't know that about the "A", gotta check it out now, thanks for sharing.

No worries! We'll both learn whether the feature is new.

That will set ya right for a while 😀

Nice pick up. I for the most part acquire mostly government issued silver and gold. I have also watched a lot of Mr. Maloney's videos to hear his perspective, but have never ordered from his site as it always about getting it as cheap as possible and his is just a little overpriced for me from what I have seen.
