The Perth Mint has just announced their new releases for March. For those who are not aware - this year is the 100th Anniversary of the ANZAC's - "We Will Remember Them".

As a Proud Aussie and a passionate supporter of the "ANZAC" tradition, these coins have a real "emotional" value, as well as the obvious financial value.

By pure coincidence, my Daughter @travelwithrhi (Rhiannon) who is backpacking around Europe, is currently in Belguim. As I write this, She is travelling on her way to visit the grave of her Great - Great Uncle, "Harry Leonard Johnson".
Harry was an ANZAC who lost his life during the First World War in Belguim and is buried there - "Lest We Forget". So far, She is the 3rd descendant to visit his grave - one from each generation since he died.

If you don't know the history of Flanders Fields, here are 2 links that make very good reading:

Now, back to the purpose of this post - PERTH MINT COINS.

I might not be able to afford the higher end coins but I WILL definitely be adding some of the others to my stack!!

Here's all the details from the Perth Mint - check it out.

The ANZAC Spirit 100th Anniversary Coin Series – In Flanders Fields 2018 2oz Gold Proof High Relief Coin.

2 ANZAC.jpg

This truly extraordinary coin pays homage to one of the best known poems about World War I In Flanders Field. The perfectly minted coin depicts a gravestone in a field of poppies with the first verse of In Flanders Fields.

In Flanders Fields was written by Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae as a heartfelt tribute to his friend and fellow Canadian Alexis Helmer, who was killed during battle in the area known as Flanders in Belgium. Today In Flanders Fields is recited at ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day commemorations. The first verse is particularly moving and is often featured on tombstones and memorials.

The deep die press into that 2 ounce Anniversary coin, along with the etch of the Perth Mint in the edge is really worth acquiring this piece. Have to check the currency conversion before pulling the trigger. Thanks for the heads-up...@plumey

That's ok. Yes, it's a really good piece. When you decide pull the trigger, get one for me..... I'll send you my address....Lol!

Well, I did the math, it's $2242/ ounce, so it may be out of my league too, so maybe we'll stick to the silver series too, LOL

Bugger - there goes that idea........

They did well with these. Very beautiful!

Yep. Very special coins for a very special occasion!

Well today it is raining cats and dogs in Belgium (and Holland where I live). Hope your daughters backpack has a raincoat inside. :)

You're on the money!! She messaged us and said she was walking through rain to get there but it's cleared up now. She has some good video and pics so maybe she'll do a post when there's wifi available.

She was in Holland last week and loved it. Can you believe she's 24 years old and has never been in a winter before and is somehow coping with the conditions over there. Very brave girl!

very cool coins ... normally I don't like colored coins but I think Perth used the colors with restraint that enhanced the coins instead of ruining it. The gold coin with just the 2 roses in color ... brilliant :):):)

Yep, sometimes colour can be a bit over the top but given the significance of the message these coins portray, I think it's quite well done.
