The Games of the XXII Olympiad were held in Moscow, USSR in 1980.
Led by the United States, 66 countries boycotted the games entirely because of the Soviet–Afghan War. The Soviet Union would later boycott the Summer Olympics that would be held in Los Angeles, USA in 1984.
We will show now several coins that were emitted to commemorate this event.
Let's start with the 10 Ruble coins. They are made of 90% silver and weight 33.3g each.
The first is a 1978 10 Rubles depicting Pole Vaulting. Its mintage was 110,292 units.
The second is a 1979 10 Rubles depicting Basketball. Its mintage was 110,342 units.
Both obverses show the Coat of Arms of the Soviet Union.
