So, here we have the gold proof britannia...........Fortieth ounce coin. As you can imagine the weight does put a strain on the old biceps trying to lift these dense metal masterpieces, i had to be careful photographing these as i could hear the table creaking under the strain but we surived the dangers to bring you this glorious feast for your gold loving eyeballs..
40th of an ounce i hear you say, yes these coins are small, those coins are far away! But personally i love them, the smallest gold proof coin from the Royal Mint and i can imagine them being little buggers to mint. But i had to stop collecting them sadly due to Royal Mint greed, they were £50 when first released, the 2014 gorgeous Jody Clark design had a mintage of 9,650 then the 2015 went down to 7,500 and there was a further reduction of mintage in 2016 which was 2,250 but the price of these had started to creep up. The poorly designed 2017 has a mintage of 1,500 but the price has risen to a ridiculous £70 putting Royal Mints value of gold at £2,800 an ounce and made these coins unappealing to a stacker with a few remaining brain cells, no really there are still a few knocking about up there.
Ahhh i hear you cry, arn't they nice? but are they worth £70 each? at £50 it was borderline but they were nice enough to pick up. So lets get the little mothers under a loupe and do an extreme close up...
2014
MINTAGE: 96502015
MINTAGE: 7,5002016
MINTAGE 2,250Well another 37 of these bad boys and i would have a full ounce of midget coins that are worth half what they cost which is a bargain at twice the price divided by 40, times 2 to the power of 4 minus 11 multiplied by an inappropriate hypotenuse which equals X, so what is Y? Bloody maths!
the 2014 proof britannia has to be about the most gorgeous coin i have seen!
I agree, i absolutely love the 2014
Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold
They are beautiful, but so tiny...What other weights are there? Their premiums are also near extortion?
Tiny isnt the word, they are...ahmm, well tiny. In this style packaging they only do the 40th oz, they do all the other sizes upwards i think but out of my price range
Wow that's pretty cool being such a small proof coin. I would hate to be the guy carving out the dies for this one!
