Class is now in session....
That’s right my fellow steemians, it’s time for another installment on variety Morgan Silver Dollars series.
Today I bring to you an 1887-P strike Morgan Silver Dollar variety yet again. This one is listed in the book as VAM 1A, but is better known by collectors as ”Donkey tail”. This one is located on the reverse of the coin. It’s from a die break that caused the D in dollar to look like it has a tail.
The Philadelphia Mint produced just over twenty million of these coins. This was not a very good year for the Philadelphia Mint for quality control. There are thirty eight listed varieties for this year. This is by far the most listed varieties for any year in the Morgan Silver Dollar series for one mint.
This coin is fairly easy to spot with the naked eye in most conditions, which makes them a little harder to find at coin shows and LCS’s, but flea markets and garage sales should be easy pickens for them.
I have found a couple of these throughout my collecting days and made a very nice profit flipping them. They are a pretty pricey variety my friends. In XF condition this coin is selling in the $400 range and AU condition goes in the thousands. I sure wish that I still had mine....
That’s it for today’s lesson, hope that you enjoyed it.
Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold
38? Are certain variations worth more than others? Think I have a few of those.
Yep 38 different VAMs are listed for that date. If you want to send me pictures of them on discord I’d be happy to help you.👍 thanks for the view
Sure sure that'd be cool.
Thanks for this post! Very interesting.
Any time my friend. Got a question for you. I would like one of your logo bars. Are you willing to trade?
