― Norm Franz, Money & Wealth in the New Millennium: A Prophetic Guide to the New World Economic Order
I have an entire adult life history of spending all my disposable income on stuff & fluff until I came across the silver stacking community on YouTube and until I convinced myself that a better way to use that income is to spend it on silver and gold and keeping most of it in cash.
The long and short story of my life: No savings and no emergency cash...
I don't know if anyone else was like mine, but my wallet used to have this large hole and money just inordinately drains out of it.
The reality: It is futile to fight the bad habit of spending.
Other people can do it, but for me personally, I can't change overnight. It will take me another lifetime and an enormous amount of time and much discomfort to break an ingrained habit of spending and buying things. I just know that I cannot do this!
The challenge: Substituting my craving for stuff & fluff for a desire for silver & gold.
I can't go for a month without buying something. So why not this... buy things of real value. Why not silver and gold? Why not buy real money?
The mind over matter game: Develop a love for silver & gold
How can I love something I do not know about? I must learn about that which I want to love.
I deliberately spent a couple of hours a day watching videos on silver stacking and coin collecting instead of spending hours browsing the web for shoes, handbags, accessories, and fluff.
The internet is a wealth of knowledge about silver and gold.
I learned that gold and silver are precious metals have real intrinsic value, and are in fact real money by definition, and that fiat currency is really not money.
As expected, my daily exposure to the shiny stuff via YouTube created a desire within me. Before I knew it, I wanted to buy silver coins.
And why not??? It makes so much sense! Buy silver and gold with fiat currency. You spent the money, but not really... because then you still have real money! Am I making sense?
It does not take a rocket scientist to figure that this is a fantastic deal and perhaps the best way to store wealth for an ordinary person like me. I CAN DO THIS!
Forcing a turning point: Action (and not plans) is that which bring about change
On Octber 2015, and as soon as my paycheck hit the bank and after determining what my disposable income for that month was, I spent half on silver bullion coins and US Constitutional silver and the other half I kept in cash inside a purse that I seldom use (out of sight out of mind, yes!). And there was nothing left to spend on stuff & fluff.
Slow and steady wins the race.
I really do not have much in disposable income a month. But I continued to do the same thing month after month: I bought a small amount of silver and fractional gold every month.
Be ahead of the game.
This was how I became a stacker of silver and gold.
If you are a stacker, how did you become one? If you are not stacking yet, why not?
Thanks for being here. It was great sharing with you! I hope that you like this post.
Much like you I have to spend money too. I substituted alot of my purchases for silver and gold. It's just too much fun watching your stack grow and searching for and buying items plus like you said, learning about history and such
I agree. I have recently diverted much of my "fluff" spending towards silver and coins, and I couldn't be happier!
Great job, @cyber.explorer! And if you continue to buy only the silver and gold that you like, there will be less likelihood of buyer's remorse. A silver stacker is a happy person, LOL!
It is so interesting how difficult it is to stop spending money. I think that you, peeps in this community and I did well by choosing silver and gold to spend money on. And you are absolutely right. I am having a blast stacking and accumulate wealth at the same time. What a concept! I appreciate you dropping by my friend, and appreciate your comment. Have a great week, @goldenarms and take care.
Very good post with an important message. I even add to our stack nowadays. I am trying to be more balanced between melting and stacking.
I am happy that you like this post @mrs-v, and did notice that you are now stacking. I think that in this hobby, one can go both ways. A person can start with interests in silver pouring and then develop their interest in stacking, or the other way around- a stacker first starts in the hobby of collecting silver, then discovers their interests in silver pouring! What I enjoy most in this community and hope that it continues is the mutual respect of the members and realize that both activities of silver pouring (who make and sell the product) and stacking (buying silver for wealth accumulation) sustain each other and is as equally important and critical to the growth and well being of the silver stacking community. There are four individuals in our community who I admire so much because they are both true stackers and also skilled silver pourers: Hiho Silver, MrZeke, Losing Louie and @silvervessel. When I grow up, I want to be like them, LOL!
True story. I feel sort of the same way. Not about limiting my expenditures but it is nice to know that buying metals you are just trading one kind of money for another. Keep the premium to a minimum and you haven’t lost much.
You are absolutely right. Many stackers buy gold and silver not as an investment but as a store of wealth. And some say that you make the money when you buy the silver and gold. The adage about (1) buying only what you like and (2) only after exercising diligence in finding the best price and most critical is (3)buying only what is within one's means are keys of excellence in stacking precious metals.
Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold
Real nice post Saver. Quick version, i was a collector earlier in life. Had a business partner that screwed me for a large amount. Had to sell off my entire collection which I got a whopping 10K for and still owed more. About twenty years later I started buying stuff again. Replacing what I had was out of the question, since that collection would’ve cost me over 300K now. So I just started buying silver and gold. I started collecting again but not to the degree I did. Dam I wish I still had those coins....😪
It was your saving grace that you started collecting coins early in life. Because of it, you had something of great value to get you through hard times. I am here for the long haul, and I am stacking primarily as an effective way to save and build wealth. Someday, I may have to sell portions or all of my stack because it is the right time to do so. I personally think that you and I and other stackers are in a better place because we have silver and gold to sell should we need to. Do you agree?
I guess so, just seeing how much the coins go for now makes me sick. While I hope no one has to sell for necessity, but when the time is right instead. True wealth is built in ounces. 👍
I have been collecting for around forty years. Numismatic pieces with high premiums. About one year ago I started stacking some bullion and semi-numismatic coins. Now I am still a numismatist, but stopped paying high premiums and I am very happy collecting Koalas, Pandas, Queen's Beasts, etc.
WOW, I am always so impressed with numismatist, and their dedication to learning about the coins they collect. As for me, I am just a bullion stacker, and have occasional pieces in my stack that has numismatic value.
I want to share with you that one of my favorite US coin is the Peace Dollar. For two years now, I have been trying to collect a set date of Peace Dollar, without regard to the mint mark. I chose to collect the graded coins because I do not know much about coin conditions, not realizing that the key date coins are beyond my means. So now, I may have to settle with graded and raw coins to complete my set. WHat do you think I should do?
There is an old advice among numismatists: "Buy the book before the coin". You must educate yourself about the coins you like. That way you will not be deceived by bad dealers and you will know what you want and how much you should pay for it.
Hahahaha, so now you know why numismatist and coin collector I will never be.
A good life long friend of mine is a stacker, and tought me the ways of the force! Then I got into watching you tube. The rest is history! I love spending fiat for real money! Its a real savings account! Awesome post my SSFL 👊💗
Is your lifelong friend in our steemit and YouTube community? I'd love to meet that friend who inspired you to stack. And the first thing I will tell him/her is "Thank You!" . @silvervessel, you are a valued member of this community and were it not for your friend, we would not have had the opportunity to meet such a wonderful person like you! Stack on my SSFL 👊💗!
No, he's not active online, but he does have a you tube channel with no content, so he can occasionally comment on my vids. He is Silverdog 3. I also did a video on his 1000oz full stack a long time ago by request so he can look at it whenever he wants, since he stored it at a different location. He almost has another 1000oz built up!! 😎 We met when I was 16 and both working at Perkins family resturant, and still work together to this day doing dryall finishing!
Oh yes, I did watch that full stack video and remember thinking who that friend of yours might be. WOW, another 1000oz! That is a lot of silver and necessarily have to be stored in different locations. I still wonder if Silver Slacker keeps all his over 7,000 oz in his garage.
Very wise words from a very wise woman !!!!!!
As they say, my friend... wisdom is the proper use of knowledge! I appreciate the kind compliment!
I too feel the need to spend and I purchase more wealth!
I wonder where that urge comes from. It is like the need to eat and drink, sometimes feel like a base need to survive. I guess that brings it to the level of addiction, right... when you feel the need to spend. Luckily, we spend it on wealth!!!

Yeah, right!!! But I am always so very patient with you, my friend!
Great post! You've got the right idea. It's a not a race but slow and steady will do the job.
I love that opening quote. It is brilliant.
nice to read some positive and sensible advice that many need nowadays
@silversaver888 this is one of the best posts I've seen. Amazing how this kind if focus and investment can change your entire life. I try and spread the word to friends and family but it never sinks in. This is life changing🤘
Awesome post @silversaver888!! I remember when we first got introduced and you told me a portion of this story. I really think this brings it home for a lot of people. There is a better way to live and stacking allows you to build real wealth. I have been lucky in that I was taught young to not run up credit debt and that silver and gold had true value. It is just fantastic to have found this community of so many like minded individuals that are just amazing!
