Matt Parkinson & Lewis Gregory handed England chance in T20 warm-up

Lancashire spinner Matt Parkinson and Somerset all-rounder Lewis Gregory will make their first senior appearances for England in Monday's second T20 warm-up.

Jonny Bairstow and Adil Rashid are rested after impressing in the opening six-wicket win over a New Zealand XI.

Dawid Malan will open the batting with Somerset's 20-year-old Tom Banton, while Tom Curran replaces brother Sam.

England play a five-match T20 series and two Test matches on their tour of New Zealand, which ends on 3 December.

Leg-spinner Parkinson, 23, took 21 wickets at an economy rate of 7.48 in the Vitality Blast last summer, while Gregory, 27, who captained England Lions in a four-day game against Australia A in July, scored three fifties and took 10 wickets in the 50-over One-Day Cup.

Banton hit a four and a six in his 11 opening with Bairstow in the first match, with the Yorkshireman firing an unbeaten 78 from 45 balls and his county colleague Rashid taking 2-25.

Wales 16-19 South Africa: Warren Gatland laments not meeting England in World Cup final

S2.jpg

Coach Warren Gatland lamented his dream of starting and finishing his Wales career against England being dashed after their agonising World Cup semi-final defeat by South Africa.

Gatland began his Wales reign with a win over England, but will not take on Eddie Jones' side in Saturday's final in Yokohama.

Instead Wales will face the All Blacks in the bronze medal match on Friday in Tokyo.

"It was not to be," said Gatland.

"The dream was that as my first game in charge of Wales was against England for the last to be against them as well."

Handre Pollard's late penalty sealed victory for the Springboks after Josh Adams' try had brought Wales level at 16-16 going into the final minutes.

"It was a very tough encounter, and well done to South Africa," said Gatland.

"We punched massively above our weight in terms of playing numbers in Wales, we gave 100% in a close contest.

"But South Africa deserved to win."

Manchester United won a Premier League away game for the first time since February and would have beaten Norwich by more if not for two Tim Krul penalty saves.

United's two first-half goals came moments after outstanding Krul stops.

Scott McTominay slammed home the opener seconds after a stunning reaction save from the Canaries keeper to deny Anthony Martial from close range.

The video assistant referee (VAR) then controversially awarded United a penalty for a Ben Godfrey foul on Daniel James - with Krul stopping Marcus Rashford's kick.

But Rashford scored with United's next attack as he was left in acres of space by the Norwich defence.

United - who move up to seventh in the Premier League - were awarded a second penalty by VAR for a Todd Cantwell handball. This time Martial took it and went the other way, and again Krul guessed correctly.

The Canaries, who remain in the relegation zone, had a couple of chances but United wrapped the game up when Martial clipped the ball over Krul after a good passing move with Rashford.

Lewis Hamilton wins Mexican GP but must wait for F1 title

S4.jpg

Lewis Hamilton won the Mexican Grand Prix with a superbly controlled drive in a tactical fight with Ferrari to move to the brink of the world title.

Hamilton will clinch his sixth championship at the US Grand Prix next Sunday as long as he does not lose more than 22 points to Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas.

Hamilton triumphed in a tense, slow-burn race of divergent strategies between the four Mercedes and Ferrari drivers.

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel was second, ahead of Bottas and Charles Leclerc.

The four men closed up in the final laps as their different tactics came together.
