As expected, last night was FULL of surprises. The one that shocked me most was Connor McDavid winning the Ted Lindsay over Sidney Crosby. I understand that Connor had an absolutely incredible season, but Sid with another Stanley Cup win really had me convinced he was going to take it. Before we dive into Vegas, lets take a quick look at how the awards played out:
- Connor McDavid - Art Ross, Ted Lindsay, Hart Memorial
- Brent Burns - James Norris Memorial
- Auston Matthews - Calder Memorial
- Sergei Bobrovsky - Vezina
- Sidney Crosby - Maurice "Rocket" Richard
- Craig Anderson - Bill Masterton
- Patrice Bergeron - Frank J. Selke
- Johnny Gaudreau - Lady Byng
- Braden Holtby - William M. Jennings
- Nick Foligno - Mark Messir Leadership, King Clancy
- Travis Hamonic - Foundation Player Award
Vegas Golden Knights
Last night was there was a lot of hype around the event, so Nolan, @theprophet0 and I brought you an article on @Steemsports about what you needed to know about the expansion draft. Today, we're going to take a look at their roster and the transactions they made. As of this moment, the Vegas Golden Knights first roster looks like this:
Forwards
Pierre-Edouard Bellemare Connor Brickley William Carrier
Cody Eakin Erik Haula Alex Tuch
William Karlsson David Clarkson Brenden Leipsic
Oscar Lindberg Jonathan Marchessault Reilly Smith
James Neal Tomas Nosek David Perron
Teemu Pulkkinen Chris Thorburn Nikita Gusev
Mikhail Grabovski
Defensemen
Alexei Emelin / Deryk Engelland ---- JasonGarrison / Brayden McNabb
Jon Merrill / Marc Methot ---- Luca Sbisa / David Schlemko
Nate Schmidt / Clayton Stoner ---- Shea Theodore / Trevor van Riemsdyk
Colin Miller / Griffin Reinhart ---- Jake Bischoff
Goalies
J-F Berube
Marc-Andre Fleury
Calvin Pickard
Goal scorers are expensive, and hard to come by. This is evident in Vegas’ selections. With the exception of Neal and Marchessault, Vegas looks to be a team that lacks any real firepower. However, on the defensive side of the puck they look to be a solid team. With Marc-Andre Fleury in net, this should be a team who doesn’t get scored on all that often, but will have trouble scoring themselves. In addition to the players above, Vegas also managed to score the following draft picks:
- 2017 first-round draft pick
- 2017 first-round draft pick
- 2017 second-round draft pick
- 2017 fifth-round draft pick
- 2017 sixth-round draft pick
- 2017 or 2018 third-round draft pick
- 2019 second-round draft pick
- 2019 second-round draft pick
- 2019 third-round draft pick
- 2020 second-round draft pick
Vegas looks to be a pretty interesting scenario. They did a fantastic job acquiring picks (3 first round picks in total) and have built themselves a solid foundation for the future. I can’t wait to see what this team puts out this upcoming season, what are your thoughts?
