Result: Arsenal 3-0 Bournemouth
Venue: Emirates Stadium
After a very disappointing outing against Liverpool, Arsenal needed a quick response and three points to get back on a winning road. They did just that by dispatching Bournemouth 3-0 at the Emirates in front of a barely full stadium.
The impressive Kolasinac having been restored to the starting line-up in place of the departed Oxlade-Chamberlain continued his strong influence in the final third after he provided the assist for Welbeck to open the scoring in the Fifth minute of the game. He burst down the left wing and hung up an inviting cross for Welbeck to connect with his head. Though the header was not a clean one, it was enough to beat Begovic and open the scoring for Arsenal. It was a very much needed goal to ease the pressure on both the manager and his players after back to back defeats against Stoke and Liverpool.
Moments later, Xhaka tried his luck from long range, but his shot was turned away for a corner. Mesut Ozil’s free kick in the first half almost found the back of the net, but some good goalkeeping from Begovic helped to prevent that from happening. The second goal came from Lacazette after he exchanged passes with Welbeck at the edge of the area, then lashed the ball home from just outside the area. It was Lacazette’s second goal of the season with just 3 shots taken. He is proving to be the clinical finisher Arsenal badly needs. Begovic was on hand to deny Lacazette the second goal as he rushed off his line to ensure that.
After the half time break, Bournemouth had their first real chance of note when summer signing Jermain Defoe struck the woodwork. Moments later, Arsenal increased their lead - this time it was Aaron Ramsey that popped up with the assist, slipping a through ball to Welbeck who finished just inside the far post with his left foot.
With this result, Arsenal climbed up to the ninth place. They will have to switch their attentions to the Europa League now; they will be playing their very first game in the competition at home to Cologne on Thursday night. Later that week Arsenal takes on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.
