The German champions have completed the signing of 22-year-old Germany international Leon Goretzka from Schalke 04 on a four-year contract which will begin on 1 July 2018 until 30 June 2022. Goretzka completed his medical in his new club on Thursday before signing the contract that will see him remain in Germany, thus putting an end to the possibility of him moving to England to link up with Liverpool. A midfield partnership with him and Naby Keita who will join Liverpool in the summer was talked about before, but this deal means such partnership would not happen.
“Leon Goretzka informed us earlier this week that he wishes to leave the club and join Bayern. We were very sorry to hear this. Bayern chief executive told us yesterday that Leon has completed a medical. We are losing a very, very good player. We did everything we could to try and keep him. In the summer he and his agent reached an agreement, but he wanted time to develop. We can cope with this situation, it wasn't a complete surprise. We are prepared for this.” Schalke’s Sporting Director said this at a press conference.
The 22-year-old has already made 12 appearances for Germany, scoring a total of 6 goals. His performances at the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia brought the young German to the limelight as his midfield display was top notch and this brought a lot of admirers and transfer speculations from top European clubs, with the likes of Liverpool, Barcelona, and Juventus being linked to him.

Bayern Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Bayern Munich Head Coach Jupp Heynckes are delighted with the move. Heynckes had this to say in his press conference ahead of their game against Werder Bremen on Sunday "I talked to (assistant coach) Peter Hermann, who worked with Leon Goretzka at Schalke, about him; He said Leon has a very good character. In the Bundesliga and at the Confederations Cup, he showed very good performances. I assume he will give everything for Schalke until June 30 and that he wants to be in the Champions League with his club.
For the Bundesliga, it's very good and very important for a Germany international to stay in Germany. There were competitors from England, Italy, and Spain. But, in the end, he decided to sign for Bayern. He is a very young player. With him, the process of rejuvenation goes on at Bayern. That's something very positive. New players bring new impulses. You know as well as I what skills he has."
This move will fuel the rumors that Arturo Vidal might just be on his way out of the club with a potential reunion with Chelsea coach Antonio Conte a likely possibility. Conte has spoken about the difficulty in competing with the Manchester clubs when it comes to transfers, but I think if the club shows ambition and are willing to get this target, they will.

Good for German football they say but I tend to disagree, the kind of monopoly Bayern Munich is currently having on the German league is not good for the league, they get all the best players the league has to offer.

Of course this affects viewership and TV revenues of the German league. If the league is not competitive enough and it's always certain who is going to win the league year in year out then then viewership of the league would reduce.

yeah! “Leon Goretzka informed us earlier this week that he wishes to leave the club and join Bayern. We were very sorry to hear this
