Houston vastly exceeded the projected expectations, posting 16 runs on the board to Oakland’s 2. The Stros’ were desperately seeking a game like this, as they have been in a slump as of late, dropping 4 of their last 5. On the other hand, the Athletics were aspiring to grab another sweep on the Astros, after previously sweeping the Orioles in their most recent series. Oakland has now fell 2 games behind the Astros in the AL West, and Houston trails .5 games behind the leader, L.A.
Dallas Keuchel made it through 8 innings, while only dropping one run. Allowing only 5 hits, 2 walks, and making 4 batters fall to their knees, Keuchel managed to earn his second win of a coarse season. The outing also helped his ERA, as it dropped from a 3.98 to a 3.53. Keuchel will revisit the mound on Sunday against the free-swinging Rangers team.
Oakland’s Brett Anderson and co. had a performance they all will want to leave in the past. Anderson alone let 9 runs cross home, 7 of which were earned in his short 3 inning stint at the mound. Chris Hatcher replaces him for 3 innings, and during his duty, 2 runs cross the plate. Finally, Font pitched the last 2.2 innings, allowing 5 runs to tap the bag on 7 hits.
George Springer put on a marvelous performance. Springer faced the pitcher 6 times, and successfully got on board 6 times. Springer went 6/6 with a early long ball and double, he even knocked in 3 runs. Marwin Gonzalez went 3/6 and he drove in 3 with a deep ball. Finally, sophomore batter Derek Fisher got the nod to pinch hit, and he showcased his talent by cracking a ball to deep right.
