With just 8 games left in the current English Premier League season, Southampton decided to send manager Mauricio Pelligrino packing, and the Saints become the ninth Premier League team to change manager this season.
Mauricio Pellegrino's Profile:
Date of birth: Oct 5th 1971
Nationality: Argentine
Club: Southampton
Sack Date: Mon March 12th 2018
Duration at Club: 262 days
Southampton are currently a point and one place above the relegation zone in the Premier League, with just eight games left in the season. In their last 17 league games, the Saints have won just one and last Saturday’s game against Newcastle saw them lose by 3 – 0.
The 46-year old Pellegrino was only appointed as a successor to Claude Puel a little over 8 months ago, in June 2017 on a three-year contract. With his sack on Monday, Southampton hope to get a replacement manager in time to take charge of the game against Wigan on Sunday in the FA Cup quarter-final.
The Saints have not finished lower than the 14th position in their previous five season in the Premier League, and they are in their sixth successive season in the English top-flight.
Sacked Pellegrino who is a former Argentina international, said of the Saturday’s game and loss, that he “observed some players who gave up”. The team’s performance was further described as abysmal, shocking and disgraceful. During his over 8 months in charge, Pellegrino managed an equivalent of 0.93 points per game which represented the third-worst points tally of any Southampton manager in their Premier League history.
With a search for a replacement currently under way, by the clubs board, a statement from the club stated that they intend appointing a new management team promptly; as assistant manager Carlos Compagnucci and Xavier Tamarit who is the assistant first team coach have also parted ways with the club.
Managerial Career:

Should have happened long ago. He has really sucked the life out of a talented Southampton side.
@footballgifs ....Yea, he didn't do a good job of managing results and the quality at his disposal in the team.
It's such a pity for Mauricio Pellegrino. He is suffering the consequences of his team not performing well. His sack doesn't mean Southampton would perform any better or worse. All the best to him.
Well, he did a decent time this season to prove his worth It just doesn't seem like he was up to the challenge @williams-owb
