2017- Manchester United
Nemanja Matic is a Serbian professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for English club Manchester United and also plays for the Serbian national team. He is known for his consistent performances on the pitch and also for his combative style of play which suits Jose Mourinho, the reason why he bought him twice; first at Chelsea and now at Manchester United.
He began his career at Kolubara before he joined Kosice in 2007. Chelsea bought him in 2009 for £1.5 million, but he was used sparingly during his first spell at Chelsea. He was sent on loan to Vitesse during the 2010-11 season; he moved to Benfica later on in a swap deal involving David Luiz where he won the Primeira Liga Player of the Year award for his performances in the 2012-13 season. He returned to Chelsea in January 2014 for a sum of £21 million. Matic was named in the PFA Team of the Year for the 2014-15 season. He was reunited with former Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho after signing for Manchester United in July 2017 on a three-year contract with an option to extend a further year.
Jose Mourinho said “Nemanja is a Manchester United player and also a Jose Mourinho player. He represents everything we want in a footballer; loyalty, consistency, ambition, team player. I would like to thank him for his desire to join us because without that, it would be impossible to have him here. I am sure our players and supporters will love him. A big welcome to our new number 31.”
Nemanja Matic said “I am delighted to have joined Manchester United. To work with Jose Mourinho once again was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. I have enjoyed my time at Chelsea and would like to thank the club and the fans for their support. I cannot wait to meet my new team-mates and to start training with them. This is a very exciting time for the club, and I am looking forward to playing my part in creating more history for this great club.”

Go united!
Mourinho also said, after Matic played in his first match for MU, that he is a genius. I'm sure glad we got him, but I wouldn't go that far with it. Carrick slices defenses open with his passing in a way that Matic just can't, although I sure like Matic's physical strength for that defensive shield. It's good to have either option I suppose.
Matic will add that defensive stability in the middle and also give Paul Pogba the chance to play upfront in the midfield without worrying too much about defensive duties.
To me, Matic is a wonderful addition to that solid United team.
Chelsea might just have handed over the EPL title to United.
Yeah, I've heard that line of reasoning, and that's kind of my point. It's not that Matic himself is any kind of genius or magician, but if he can free up Pogba to operate more upfield then his contribution to the effort is incredibly multiplied. I would love that to be true.
