A tough twelve rounds was completed Saturday to decide a finalist for the Boxing Super Series in the heavyweight division. We have one more bout in which Yunier Dorticos will fight Muriat Gassiec and that fight will not be explosive, but provide us the second half of our championship bout.
Usyk is a decision fighter, and it isn't so much a lack of power, it is simply his Olympic boxing style to bounce around and not take damage. He has been more insistent on aggression and walking opponents out as of late, but he never abandons defense and that is a great asset to have.
Usyk has shown immense durability and the ability to condition himself for a hard twelve rounds. Breidis was a solid contender and in fact a solid amount rounds against Usyk, but it was his fall off in the later rounds that really cost him. One of the judges actually posed a draw as the result.
Both Gassiev and Dorticos possess a lot more power than Usyk has shown in his fights, but their evasion isn't there as the former Oympian's is. I favor Usyk to win the whole tournament for now, but depending on the next finalist bout, I may see a new contender grabbing the trophy.
The Super Series has posed one of the most sought after titles in the boxing world, the Muhammad Ali trophy truly represents the most distinguished and polished of fighters...and the winners will have their time on the global pay per view scalings soon enough...
Groves and Eubank will settle their war soon enough to decide the next worthy middleweight contender, and with a winner between Usyk and whomever wins next month, we will have a new era of boxing to look forward to. It will be a solid night of championship bouts, you don't want to miss these!
