The NFL season has provided us with many surprises already, and it is not even preseason yet! From crucial players getting traded, to Beast Mode “Marshawn Lynch” coming out of retirement and being signed by the Raiders, this upcoming season has fans all across the nation excited for what’s to come next for the future of the NFL season. With America’s favorite team in the Cowboys almost going undefeated and the Raiders establishing the powerhouse offense they have, there is no telling what is to come for any team and their decisions that they make from this point on. But being a Chicago Sports Fan, it's a rocky time right now, simply because you have teams having great success in the recent years such as the Blackhawks and Cubs winning national titles but also teams making some of the worst decisions such as the Bears and the Bulls.
The most recent decision made by the Chicago Bears was the draft choice of North Carolina’s former QB Mitchell Trubisky. The choice in itself was not as bad as it seems because we all know throughout the history of the draft it is a hit or miss type of game. But what the Bears gave up for the Trubisky was personally troubling to watch as a Bears fan. Giving up their third round pick, fourth round pick, and another third round pick from next season, the bears would trade this to move up one spot in the first round. Being bumped up from the overall third pick in the draft to the overall second pick in the draft was the result of this and they would pick up a QB, Mitchell Trubisky. This concept seems confusing simply because it is not like Trubisky is not even a household name or has made that big of an impact at North Carolina for ANY team to pick him second overall in the draft. Not to mention the Bears GM just went into free agency to sign previous Tampa Bay Buccaneers Quarterback Mike Glennon for a pretty hefty deal. This is why their decision to trade away potential picks for someone who is not proven has many Bears fans is disarray.
Now, the Bears management has been under construction in somewhat of a rebuilding phase for the last 5-7 years. From the firing of Lovie Smith who was a defense minded coach to the hiring of a new coach the following season, and most recently, the signing of John Fox, the bears coaching staff has had some difficulties. GM, Ryan Pace has, obviously, not made the best decisions when it comes down to the future of this franchise. But the decision to trade up and sign Trubisky could work out in the Bears favor. You have seen it in the past from QB’s such as Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson. These were players not expected to go high in the draft but ended up being great fits for their respected teams. Hopefully, Mitchell Trubisky can be that missing piece that the bears needed.
The bears trading away these picks have left many Chicago fans in disappointment. With the passing of explosive picks like Deshon Watson, Dede Westbrook, and Rueben Foster, these are potential picks that have the ability to offensively and defensively change a team. It is too much risk in drafting Mitchell Trubisky and not enough guaranteed reward for this decision. Although Glennon will get the start for the first preseason game against Denver Broncos many fans are awaiting his performance in order to get a better look at the rookie QB. Whether or not Trubisky plays well will be the determining factor that allows fans to see whether or not the trade up was worth it.
Overall, many decisions have been made, some better than others, but the opportunity for renewal within the Bears offense is still questionable. Whether or not the rookie QB and free agent Glennon can click within the Bears offensive scheme will prove whether or not the decisions made by GM Ryan Pace were the correct options. All Bears fans can do now is wait for the season to start and see what QB’s have to offer to the team. In result of their decisions Bears fans are outraged but nobody ever knows how these picks will turn out, so the only way to find out is let them play!

Sort:

The Bears' QB is named Mitch(ell) Trubisky, not Matt... also, Aaron Rodgers was expected to be a Top 5 pick.

Not a fan of the trade up but you've got to respect the resolve to do what they believe to be the right thing. This is either a home run or a strike out, there really isn't much middle ground.

Pace has staked his job in Mitch's success, I don't know if he's right, but I respect the balls to push all of his chips into the middle.

I love watching NFL with a cold beer!!! thanks for sharing this @steemsports..keep up the good work...

i miss the NFL so much :/ lol

The same here, welcome.

Bears should definately draft Marshon Lattimore, he would be a perfect fit. Best fit for a position of extreme need. They need everything from WR's to a Quarterback. Get back to the good old days please!

Still can't believe the Bears traded up to take a guy that the 49ers didn't even want.. As a Viking fan though, I can't be mad! :)

time for beer and football :) Even a jobless person like myself can enjoy :) upvoted! Followed!

Nice post!

I can't see how this rookie is going to be able pull it off. We will c u never know!

Hopefully they can pull something good this year!

Great post. I love good posts.

You got thar right about the bears and bulls making some questionable moves in the last few years. Like how they refuse to trade alshon Jeffery while he was still in the midst of his contract with a high trade value knowing they werent going to win anything for those few seasons. BUT, overall, getting rid of Cutler makes up for a lot of the bad moves recently.
