Recently, inter-league match-ups have been played starting from opening day. In contrast to inter-league play beginning in mid-June to July as seen in the previous decades. On Monday, Boston begun their series against the HOFer Derek Jeter's Miami Marlins team. Brian Johnson found himself pitching in the fourth position in the rotation, and their fourth game happened to come against the Marlins. Johnston seized his 3rd career win, in his third MLB season, only pitching in a total of 7 games. A rookie pitcher in Trevor Edwards took the mound for Miami, and as rookies have a frequency of being dominated in their first performance, Edwards was no exception.

Brian Anderson put the first point on the board for the Marlins, in spectacular fashion with a solo blast to deep right field. The Red Sox responded to the early deficit by scoring 6 unanswered runs, through the seventh inning. Eduardo Nunez and Vasquez each tallied RBI doubles, scoring 3 of the 6. Hanley Ramirez hit a two run blast too deep left, followed up in the next inning by Mookie Betts with a homer to almost the exact same location.

The Marlins fans hoped that Cameron Maybin’s RBI single in the bottom of the 8th could shed some light on the deficit, but were disappointed instead. In the top of the ninth, Rafael Devers hit a RBI double, extending the Sox lead to 5, once again. To wrap up the game, Starlin Castro hit a ground-out RBI, followed by a pop-out by Brian Anderson to close the ballgame.
