San Diego lost the first game to the Miami Marlins and won the second with a final score of 9-5. The Padres managed to equalize their record in the last 10 games at 5, but still sit in the basement of the NL West, 7.5 games out of first with a record slightly better than the Marlins, 23-33. Derek Jeter’s Marlins Franchise is now in rebuilding mode after dishing off their most valuable assists in Stanton, Yelich, and Ozuna. Miami occupies the lowest position out in the NL East, as they are 20-34 and only sit one game ahead of the Reds for the notorious title of the worst time in the NL.
Tyson Ross took the mound in what ended in a no-decision outing. He tossed 87 pitches threw 5.1 innings, as 3 runs crossed the plate on 6 hits and 1 walk. Ross appended 4 K’s to his stats, and marked up his ERA to a 3.29. Andy Green made the call to the Pen’ five times as Stammen, Cimber, Hand, Makita, and Yates all threw pitches to the Marlins. These guys accumulated 2 runs on just 4 hits and gave up zero walks.
Starting pitcher Dan Straily lost his first game of the year, putting up some ugly numbers. 5 runs scored on 7 hits during his time on the mound. He did manage to match Ross’s K total with 4, but elevated his ERA into the high 3’s. His record now sits at 2-1 and he will see the mound again on Sunday in Arizona.
San Diego drove in three early runs with two RBI singles off the bats of Raffy Lopez and Eric Hosmer. By the sixth inning, the Marlins had recovered the lead by posting 4 runs on the board with Realmuto’s triple, J.B. Shuck’s double, and Anderson’s single. In the bottom, the Padres reclaimed the lead kudos to Reyes’s two run blast. In the eighth inning, San Diego scored a few attenuate runs, heightening their lead to 5. Speedster J.T. Riddle showed up for the first time in the bottom of the ninth as his first hit of the year came on an inside the park home run.
