The fifth round of the Carabao Cup was played during the week and these fixtures brought only one surprise result as Championship side Bristol City came out 2-1 winners against the English giants Manchester United at their home stadium, Ashton Gate.
Other results saw Arsenal defeat West Ham United 1-0 thanks to a goal from Danny Welbeck. Table toppers, Manchester City needed penalties to defeat Leicester City after a normal time 1-1 draw. Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy both missed their spot kicks during the shootout after Vardy had scored a very late spotkick in regulation time to force the game into penalties. Chelsea also won their game against Bournemouth by 2 goals to 1.
Semi-Finals Fixtures:
Chelsea vs Arsenal on January 9th and 23rd
Manchester City vs Bristol City on January 10th and 24th
Chelsea vs Arsenal will be the first game played in the semi-finals. The game will be played on January 9 at the Stamford Bridge with the return leg played on January 23 at the Emirates Stadium. Who do you fancy progressing to the final?
Giants, Manchester City were handed a rather easy draw according to their standard and in their minds, they already have a place secured in the final and an opportunity to secure a title early on. But if I were a City supporter, I won’t be 100% confident because this Championship side has proved themselves to be giant killers since the second round when they faced EPL side Watford. Ever since, they have been eliminating Premier League sides with the latest being Manchester United.

Third Round:
Bristol City 2-0 Stoke City
Fourth Round:
Bristol City 4-1 Crystal Palace
Fifth Round:
Bristol City 2-1 Manchester United
The Bristol City fans will be very optimistic of their chances of making the final. But to be realistic, this chance is a very, very slim one. Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola will see this fixture like any other Premier League fixture and also judging from Bristol City’s form in this competition, I expect the Spaniard to field a very strong starting XI against this Championship side. I see Manchester City winning this game easily.
The other game to be played sees the two London clubs paired. In recent meetings, Arsenal seem to have gotten a way of handling the Blues and it remains to be seen if Arsene Wenger can continue his impressive form against his Italian counterpart or if Antonio Conte can finally get his tactics right and dominate the game against the Gunners. This game is a difficult one to call; both teams really need to get a result away from home if they want to secure qualification. Though I’m an Arsenal fan, but I fancy Chelsea to secure qualification to the Final, considering factors like recent form and Wenger’s history of never winning the competition before.
We will have a taste of these actions in the New Year.

I can't believe Bristol City have beaten four Premier League teams on the trot. Hopefully they make it five! I hope it will be Arsenal vs. Bristol City in the final, but I think it will be Chelsea vs. Man City.
They are on a fairy-tale journey and are aiming to do the impossible against arguably the most in-form team in Europe. For Chelsea vs Arsenal, fingers are crossed.
