Thibaut Courtois, the Chelsea number one stopper has confirmed his readiness to extend his contract at Stamford Bridge despite, stating that “his heart is in Madrid”, for family and personal reasons. The 25 year old Belgian international has been first choice for the Londoners since breaking into the first team in 2014, after back-to-back loan spells with Spanish-side, Atletico Madrid between 2011 and 2014.
Despite being linked frequently and lately with a move back to Spain, with Real Madrid, the Belgian stopper has stated that negotiations with Chelsea over a new deal was on-the-cards; and he would be looking forward to pen down a new deal with the English champions.
In a recent interview with a Belgian Sport Foot Magazine, Courtois said; “We agreed to meet again in February because the club had more urgent issues to deal with in January. There’s no rush, I am under contract until 2019. Normally, there’s no problem and I will extend. I am happy here and I can see we’re heading in the right direction, looking to win many more titles. The signs are positive. Their desire to also tie Eden Hazard down reassures me too.”
The club hierarchy and supporters would consider the news as a boost, following the terrible league season Chelsea is having, which saw them embarrassed 3 – 0 at home to Bournemouth, and disgraced 4 – 1 away to Watford, in back-to-back losses in the Premier League.
The recent debacle in their last two games has seen pressure mount on Coach Antonio Conte, with speculations about his future and key Chelsea players, rife. His recent outburst on media hasn’t quelled nerves at the Chelsea hierarchy either, and unless results begin to go the way of the team and coach, patience from the club bosses may eventually thin out.
A key player in the nature of Thibaut Courtois committing his future to the club despite open knowledge that the 25-year-old has two children living in Spain with their mother, would definitely inspire confidence among supporters of the club. Lots of supporters have voiced concerns recently and are running thin on patience, with regards to the direction the London club seems to be going via recent transfer dealings.
Time would tell if Chelsea and Antonio Conte can steady the ship, and navigate via the turbulent waters to emerge unscathed at the end of a season that has seen them fall 19-points behind current league leaders, Manchester City.

I disagree with Courtois extending his contract @ Stamford Bridge. He is a wash. His disappointing us the Fans
Well @evangelistben, I think it is a matter of opinion though. And i'm sure many Chelsea fans would disagree with your assertion too. But then, i think the whole team has struggled recently, not just Thibaut Courtois.
I agree with your view, the club has gone through hard times
he's a great world goalkeeper, hopefully thibaut courtois move to real madrid ,, he matches the same spirit of the club for real madrid
I think he is a good goalie @maidirsinaga. But whether Real Madrid would prefer him to David De Gea - whom they have been chasing for years now - time would tell.
A sport I've never gotten into. I tried again recently and it just doesn't do anything for me. I guess I would watch a championship game though.
@johnwjr7 what sports do you follow?
American Football only. I never could get into basketball, baseball or hockey either.
You will love football when you come in @johnwjr7
