With the commencement of the football season drawing closer every day, the excitement is growing among fans as clubs take advantage of the transfer market to bolster their squads ahead of the coming season. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea, Real Madrid, Monaco, Juventus, Bayern Munich can all retain their status as Champions of their Leagues.
Asides the excitement that comes with signing new players, another thing fans look forward to during the summer is the unveiling of the new kits that will be worn by their players for the upcoming season. Popular Jersey designers like Puma, Nike, and Adidas amongst others have to come up with unique designs each year for their various clubs.
I will be taking a look at the home kits of the top Europeans teams for the 2017/18 season that will kick off in August.
Arsenal
The Arsenal 2017/18 home kit shows a traditional dark red with a collar. The official name of the color of the Arsenal 2017/18 kit is ‘Chili Pepper.' The kit is designed by Puma. The Emirates airline continues as the main sponsor, with its logo featured on the center front of the Arsenal 2017/18 jersey. The jersey was officially launched on June 21. Arsenal fans will be hoping that Alexis Sanchez rocks this new jersey next season instead of playing in other colors as his future in Arsenal remains in doubt.
AS Monaco
The new Nike Monaco home jersey was revealed on July 2. The official sponsor of the Monaco jersey will be Fedcom. The new jersey is an update of the Monaco red and white colors but with gold detailing. A white line runs down each side of the new kit with gold trim on the back neck and red on the sleeves. The team really surpassed expectations last season, and the footballing world will be closely monitoring this team to see how they perform next season.
Barcelona
Nike launched Barcelona new home jersey on 29 May. The jersey will feature Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten as the main sponsor for the very first time. This jersey brings a totally new look for the club. It features a totally new fading stripes design after the current home shirt re-introduced the classic Blaugrana stripes. Just like most Nike designs this season, the new jersey has a strip at the neck side. Barcelona will be looking to return to winning ways this coming season with a new Coach, a new jersey and possibly, new players.
Bayern Munich
The new Bayern Munich jersey was released on May 18, and as is tradition, it was debuted before the end of last season at home against Freiburg on May 20. The new jersey is even more classic than that of previous years. It was inspired by the iconic 1974 shirt; it features four thick white stripes on the front as well as one on each sleeve. The sleeve and collar cuffs are almost like those of the 1974 original version.
Borussia Dortmund
Personally, I love Dortmund’s jersey. I think it’s the color that gets me, the perfect mix of black and yellow. This new jersey was again made by Puma and also sponsored by Evonik. The jersey was revealed on May 17. It features a gradient hoop pattern on the front with the back and most of the sleeves being monochrome. The two hoops which contain the Puma and club logos are slightly different to ensure maximum legibility. A mix of black shorts and yellow socks will complete the amazing fierce look of the Borussia Dortmund 2017/18 home kit.
Chelsea
The Chelsea shirt was launched on July 1, just one day after the previous deal with Adidas expired. Nike is Chelsea’s new sponsor after long-term kit supplier Adidas terminated their deal with the Blues permanently. Yokohama Tyres stays on as the primary sponsor. The new jersey is the first ever to be produced by Nike, and it features a darker shade of blue than that of previous years. I have heard positive reviews of this jersey from Chelsea fans. Good job Nike.
Juventus
The new Juventus jersey was launched on June 7. This jersey is similar to the first two Juventus home shirts by Adidas. Jeep officially sponsors the 2017/18 Juventus jersey, and for the first time ever, the Juventus home kit features the new ‘J’ crest that was unveiled in January. Another change from previous years is the design of the Jeep sponsor logo. The jersey features black and white stripes what the club is known for. A white short and a white pair of socks will complete this classy home kit.
Liverpool
The Liverpool kit was made to celebrate the club’s 125th anniversary. This jersey was inspired by the Liverpool jerseys of the 1970’s. Just like others, the Liverpool 2017/18 home jersey has a darker red than in recent years, it also features a special logo to commemorate the anniversary. The jersey was unveiled on April 27. It will be nice to see stars like Coutinho, Mane, Firmino and new signing Salah rock this jersey when the season starts.
Manchester United
The Red Devils 2017/18 home kit has much more black compared to last seasons’ which was mainly red and white. The jersey is made by Adidas and features Chevrolet as the main sponsor with its logo on the front of the jersey. The jersey has two buttons by the neck side and a visible black and white band by the arm. As usual, we can see the Adidas three stripes by the shoulder. This jersey will be debuted against LA Galaxy on July 15.
Manchester City
The Manchester City 2017/18 kit was made by Nike. They announced that it was inspired by the 1967-68 league title winning uniform. The jersey features Etihad Airways as the main sponsor. The new jersey will also have Nexen Tire’s logo on the sleeves in the league. Man City became the first Premier League team to sign a sleeve sponsorship deal. The team Guardiola is building plus a nice jersey like this, I see Manchester City playing good football next season and going really far, and probably pick up one or two trophies.
Paris Saint-Germain
The new PSG kit introduces colored sleeves with a bold design. Emirates remain the main sponsor of the kit. The new shirt was released on May 23. The most eye-catching feature of the kit is the sleeves, a combination of the dark blue base with thin red stripes to create purple. Red accents are also present in the form of a stripe around the neck and on each side of the jersey.
Real Madrid
The current UEFA Champions League Champions. The champions' jersey has a modern design and set of colors. Adidas made the jersey and once again, Emirates is the main sponsor of the Real Madrid 2017/18 jersey. This jersey was released on June 14. The jersey is white in color and features a vibrant and saturated shade of teal. The teal is used for the Adidas logos and the Emirates writing on the chest of the jersey. The Los Blancos will be looking to defend the La Liga and Champions League titles come next season and possibly go a step forward by claiming the treble.
Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs secured qualification to the Champions League and will be hoping they can do well this time around. On July 1, Nike launched their debut kit for Tottenham Hotspur who previously employed the services of Under Armour. The new jersey features a stripe detail around the back neck, while a blue stripe runs down the sides. The new Spurs badge is inspired by the 1950s take on the Spurs badge with a shield around the original logo. Will Harry Kane score more goals with this new jersey and claim the Golden Boot for the third time in a row?
