The Swiss maestro, Roger Federer, keeps marching on with a straight sets victory over his fourth round opponent. Federer defeated the German, Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-4, 6-2, 7-5 in straight sets and finished off the match in just an hour and 49 minutes. Federer is well on course for another US Open title if he continues to bury his opponents like this.
The Swiss was his usual efficient and elegantly ruthless with Kohlschreiber given no chance at all throughout the course of the three sets. Such was the dominance of Federer that the German could not win a single break point in the fourth round match up.
The rumours of Federer enduring a back injury and still playing on were put on the backburner after this masterclass and all eyes are now set on an eye watering clash against arch rival, Rafael Nadal who could be potentially his opponent in the semifinals if both these players win their respective quarterfinal match ups.
But it would not be easy for Federer as he faces the towering Argentine and the world number 24, Juan Martin del Potro in the last eight. Del Potro was the one who defeated Federer in the 2009 final in the US Open and broke the Switzerland international’s streak of five consecutive US Open titles.

The fans in the Arthur Ashe stadium were given a scare by Federer tough. After the second set the Swiss took a medical timeout and it seemed as if the back injury is coming into play. But the 26 year old later clarified that he needed a “good rub” on his bottom just as a precaution. The fans cheered on when the great returned to the court in just five minutes and finished off the proceedings with another quick set.
Way to go Roger Federer. Good job. Thanks for sharing @steemsports.
Top du top
Really hoping for another classic between Fed & Nadal. See what happens in the quarters!
