Stress affects all people, due to pressures at work or family problems, stress generates a physical and emotional tension.
While a little stress is not bad to avoid danger or meet deadlines with more dedication, when it occurs for long periods, can harm health.
A recent study conducted by the University of California, Berkeley, and BBC Earth, has revealed a new way to reduce stress and anger, as well as increase feelings of amazement and joy.
How to reduce stress instantly?
According to the study, an effective way to reduce stress is to watch videos of nature.
It is not new that being in contact with nature relaxes us and helps us feel better, both physically and emotionally, but it seems that watching videos also achieves that effect.
The psychologist at UC Berkeley, Dacher Keltner and BBC Earth were in charge of exploring the connection between nature videos and positive emotions.
Scientific research
For the research, hundreds of studies were gathered about the positive effect of nature on humans.
They also gathered more than 7,500 people from the United Kingdom, the United States, Singapore, South Africa, India and Australia.
The participants were shown 5 videos in total, one of news, two of nature and one of drama. Each video with a duration of between one and three minutes. And they were asked how they felt before and after watching the videos.
On a general level, people reported having more positive emotions and a decrease in negative emotions when watching nature videos.
Unlike news or drama, videos of nature and wildlife awaken feelings of curiosity, joy, wonder and admiration, and reduce feelings of stress, anger, fatigue and little energy.
The study revealed that the youngest participants, between 16 and 24 years old, are highly stressed and that watching videos about the natural world helps them reduce stress and find calm.
So you know, the next time you feel overwhelmed take a few moments in the office or at home and watch a video about nature. It can help you change emotions instantly!
