RE: Should Electric Bikes Be Allowed on Hiking Trails?

in #steemstem7 years ago

In EU, regulations made e-bikes completely undesirable to me:

  • 250W
  • and the top speed of 25 km/h with assistance

As I can easily achieve 25 km/h on average than I would just carry around all that heavy electronics.

In my utopian world, e-bikes would be on the roads, but in their own narrow lanes, cruising at 35-40 km/h. Cars would pass them with no danger, pedestrians would be happy. Everybody would be happy.

But... Bosch wrote the law.

Rimac sure does make some beautiful machines. Shame about the draconian ebike laws in the EU, a buddy of mine went ahead and built a 1kw ebike anyways figuring the cops wouldn't notice or care. But they did, it was confiscated within the week. They are much more savvy about ebikes than they were a few years ago.
