Renewable energy is great but it needs to be utilized in a much more effective manner.
For instance solar panels should be installed close to the equator and should be automated to follow the sun as it travels through the sky for maximum efficiency. In New England I often see solar panels covered with snow. They are also mounted on rooftops at a stationary angle which diminishes the potential capture of sun rays by a huge factor. Rules of thumb for solar: close to the equator, install in areas with reputations for clear skies, automate to follow the sun throughout the day.
Another way to combat the use of petroleum based fuel is to expand our nuclear energy production. Nuclear reactors can provide a significant quantity of energy while releasing no carbon into the atmosphere. Nuclear power can be adjusted to meet demand which makes it one of the most useful and promising energy sources for the future. Nuclear reactors produce power from fuel which could provide electricity to our society for thousands of years. If only it could gain public support, human society could see an age where energy costs are so low that they are almost irrelevant.
