Unity is strength ! Let's stop smoking

in #steemstem5 years ago

"Smoking kills". Tobacco is the leading cause of lung cancer, smoking is toxic BLABLABLA ...

We have all heard that already!

Always accusing smokers, pointing fingers, but if instead of making them feel guilty, we would help them understanding the real benfits of stopping smoking?

Today there are more than a billion smokers on our planet and as many people involved in this article.

This is a fight that we must fight together against the tobacco producers who enrich themselves at the expense of our health. They are willing to do anything to poison us a little more as long as it’s profitable. Including adding substances in cigarettes: some add cocoa in cigarettes, which acts as a bronchodilator, which dilates the airways and increases the absorption of toxic smoke! They are also capable of adding heavy metals, radioactive agents (polonium), but also irritants (acrolein) and carcinogens (nitrosamines, dioxins).

Today I will highlight the real benefits of stopping smoking.

The first thing to know is that the effects of stopping smoking come extremely fast!

After the first 20 minutes after stopping:

There is already a decrease in blood pressure, pulse, and an increase in the temperature of the extremities (nose, fingers, toes, etc ...)

After 8h:

Normalization of blood CO is observed and oxygen has become normal in the blood.

After 24 hours:

Decreased risk of heart attack.

During the first 2 weeks to 3 months after stopping:

There already is an improvement of the blood circulation and also an improvement of the walking and the respiratory functions.

You will already be able to breathe better and get youself a little physical condition!

During the first 1 to 9 months:

The amount you cough starts to decrease, your sinuses come out, fatigue is less present, and you definitely breathe better! You’ll also be more energetic again.

After 1 year:

The risk of getting a heart attack is reduced by 50% compared to active smokers.

After 5 years:

The risk of having a stroke is equivalent to that of a non-smoking person again.

After 10 years:

The risk of developing bronchial cancer is reduced by 50%, the risk of esophagus cancer, bladder, kidney and pancreas cancer risks are also reduced.

After 15 years:

YOU SUCCEEDED !

The risk of heart attack is equal to that of non-smokers as well as the risk of death!

It's never too late to stop smoking!

Finally, I would like to talk briefly about electronic cigarettes.

Currently it’s common to use these e-cigarettes in order to reduce tobacco consumption.

It is true that the advantages are numerous: Tobacco gets replaced by other, less toxic, substances (which helps with weaning), it preserves the gesture, it’s also cheaper and there is a decrease of the toxicity for the surrounding, etc.

But the risks are not well understood because we do not know the effects in the long term. And it is also possible to add sillicite substances, so there are important differences between the numerous alternatives!

In addition, there is an absence of quality control of these substances and the refills are without dose limits!

Let's be stronger together and do not hesitate to tell me in comments if you ever tried to stop smoking or if you enjoyed this article and it motivated you to take action !

The difficulty with halting addictive behaviour is the reinforcement brought by the immediate "positive" consequence resulted from it, which outweighs the effects of any long-term negative consequence. So, bringing forth that quitting smoking yields positive effects as rapidly as after only 20 minutes, 8 hours and 1 day is a very smart way of campaigning against this detrimental habit! :)

All the best to you @debo-medstudent,
Abigail

Thank you.
I found that too an unusual approach :-)

I did stop smoking fags... I don't even know exactly... maybe 4 years ago?!

I used a douche flute for maybe half a year, slowly dosing down the nicotine towards 0mg... then that thing eventually broke, and I never even bothered to get a new one.

Kudos to me. And Kudos to you for this #GooglyEyes debut!

Your stethoscope kinda looks it's wearing a super fancy twirly moustache.

Congratulations !

Thanks for bringing up really valuable content. :)

Thank you ! ;-)

The latest trends here (Eastern Europe) is to replace cigarettes with other tobacco products like heated cigarettes. How do they fare vs normal cigarettes. The producers says they are 85% better but is this really true?
As we now now that electronic cigarettes are as bad as the regular ones, how do the heated cigarettes (IQOS and Glo) fare?

Very nice to see you talking about this subject, I am a non-smoker, although I experimented with all kinds, for science. I still prefer a red wine at the end of the day.

Cheers to you!

PS: Are you planning on bringing actual research to the platform, from your field? I would love to read/see something similar to Healthcare Triage on Youtube. It takes more time, that's granted, but it's bound to get more SteemSTEM votes :P
