Rubella is often referred to as German measles. Rubella is caused by a virus that spreads from other people through breathing. Avoid coughing or sneezing. Rubella is also spread through direct contact with the nose or throat secretions of an infected person.
A study states that if a woman experiences rubella while pregnant, especially during the first three months of fear the baby is at risk of having a serious birth defect.
During pregnancy, rubella can cause congenital rubella syndrome, the main cause of deafness, in unborn babies. Vaccination is the only way to prevent disease.1
Symptoms of rubella
Symptoms of rubella are a rash, mild fever, joint pain, and reddening of the eyes. Rashes usually appear on the face and spread from head to toe. Lymph nodes just behind the ear and behind the neck can swell, causing aches and pains.
Many people with rubella have little or no symptoms, and up to half of people who have this disease may not get a rash. In most cases of rubella, symptoms appear 16 to 18 days after exposure to the virus 2
Prevention
To prevent rubella is to do a vaccine. This vaccine is often called MMR.
In many cases, the symptoms are mild. For others, mild symptoms can be managed with bed rest and medication for fever, such as acetaminophen.3
Who should be vaccinated?
Every woman must receive the rubella vaccine to anticipate things that are not desirable, especially when pregnant.

MMR vaccine is guaranteed to be safe and very effective in preventing rubella even though it has side effects such as mild reactions such as fever, redness, or swelling at the injection site4
