I have tasted the future...
This unassuming machine is a vision of the future
As I pulled up to the movie theater I noted that their sign said, "try our bar and take your drink to your seat",
"Sounds like a plan" I thought
At the concession stand there was a separate line for drinks and I checked out their menu:
"Tennessee Breeze" sounded like an easy sipper to me so I order one, then the young man whipped out a cup tossed it in a machine and the machine poured my cocktail. When he first put my cup under there I was like "dear God no, not a premixed cocktail!" but it was not a pre-mixed cocktail, the machine poured each component separately. Mind blown. My world was rocked, "did that robot just pour me a cocktail?!" I exclaimed. The young man assured me that it had and then he put it on another machine that sealed a lid on top. A lid like they have on those bubble teas.
Fumbling in the dark and it being my second time with one of those lids I did manage to spill a little trying to jab my straw through the lid but once I did it was sublime. A perfectly acceptable cocktail made by heartless soulless machine.
I was once a certified bartender, I took a bartending class in college, I never actually worked as a bartender but it was nice to think that I always had that to fall back on. But now apparently I and millions others have become obsolete. Well not "millions" according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics about 611,000 people were employed as bartenders in 2006. They project some growth, I wonder if they have seen this thing. I note that this didn't take anyone's job, they didn't have cocktails there before but I can imagine these being used in bars and restaurants exclusively, no more inventory issues or over pours, any waitress can push the button, heck these could be self serve. I have been to the future and there are cocktails.
How do you feel about robot bartenders?
Yeah that'll be the day. Come on funbobby just how much fun is it going to be for those escaping from life's little stressers by going to your local tavern and talking to a machine....lol....whose going to want to be the first one to get to a bar, sitting their soaking up all that quiet. ...lol....those machines are only going to come in handy for one thing, the bars bottom line. The high end drinks that waitresses are infamous for cheating customers and owners out of by substituting the low end stuff, charging the higher price and pocketing the difference.
One wonders what busty single mothers are going to do for work now.
Just one more job taken over by a robot, Skynet here we come. I'm jealous of the theatre that allows you to drink and watch a movie though
Yup, no more liter beers in my pockets for me!
when will they make a 'consumer' model for home use?
I hope soon, either way consider how much people spend on their home bars, all those shelves and crap replaced by this. I would put it right next to the couch.
home bars?
huh...I guess they do
I just have a couple of gallons of whisky by my computer.
when one runs out I get another..
(always have a back up)
home bars...I must look into this concept...it'd be a great idea for my houseboat.
Cool stuff. Did you have to tip it?
good question! no
Nice! I tried to visit the Tipsy the Robot Bartender when I was in Vegas a couple months back.
Unfortunately it was out of commission (probably tried to take over the world).
lol, maybe this was the world's second, and it was working perfectly.
No tipping, No takeover of mankind, and a well-mixed 'Old Fashion'? Sounds like an upgrade 2.0 to me!
I can't speak to the second point, they might be just getting us drunk so they can take advantage of us.
