See actually facebook has got one beautifull concept called targeted ads that targets the user that uses its app.Now suppose u searched about something on amazon app and u didnt liked it and u switched to something else and then when u open ur facebook account after 15 min u will definetly see ads of the product u searched on amazon this is what targeted ads is where it targets those user only which actually needs it.See there is a pros and cons to this system as there is nothing called privacy on internet ur each and every things are noticed by somebody and are traced by it,also on other end for a normal guy wont feel anything because he/she is seeing something that he is actually interested in so it has two sides of coin.Also data of each person on facebook is more than one can imagine of it.Facebooks not only collects this when u go on app and check in it but also when u like some stuff on fb its also recorded onto ur database and then any ads related to it will be shown.The ads are also shown to fans friend and thus letting more and more come and see the stuff.

Now snapchat is also on same track but its not that efficient as fb on targeted ads as it just shows to user all the ads and thus sometimes becomes irritating for someone.
