Theory that changed the world - Nicolas Copernico and the Heliocentric Theory

in #steemstem7 years ago

Greetings friends, no doubt this publication will give much to talk about, I talk about one of the most influential theory of astronomy, "the Heliocentric theory of Nicolas Copernico, this argues that the earth and other planets revolve around the sun (Star of the Solar System.) Heliocentrism was a theory formulated by Nicolas Copernico, considered one of the most influential astronomers in history, since his theory is based on mathematical calculations, which allowed him to sustain the hypothesis of it, thanks to This Copernicus marked the beginning of what today is known as the Scientific Revolution.

Welcome to this interesting post !!

Nicolas Copernico (1473-1543), Polish astronomer is known for his heliocentric toria, according to which the sun is at the center of the Universe and the Earth revolves around it.

What is the Heliocentric Theory?

The revolucion cientifica that tuvo lugar in el siglo XVII, fue an tiempo of aprendizaje y descubrimiento sin presedentes para la historia. Durante este periodo, establishes the cemientos of the ciencia moderna, gracias to the advances in the camp of the fisica, the matematicas, the qumica, the biology and the astronomia. The cuando acted as astronomia, and the erudito mas influential indisputably fired Nicholas Copernico.

While Copernico was not the first to propose a model of the Solar System in which the Earth and the planets revolved around the sun, his heliocentric theory of the universe was novel and timely. On the one hand, it occurred at a time when European astronomers were struggling to solve the mathematical and observational problems that arose from the Ptolemaic model of the universe, based on geocentrism.

The fundamental hypotheses of Copermico Heliocentric Theory are:

1 . The universe is round.

2 . The earth is also circular.

3 . The movement of the celestial bodies is uniform, perpetual and circular or composed of circular movements.

4 . The sky is immense with respect to the magnitude of the Earth.

5 . The order of the celestial orbits. After criticizing the order that the Ptolemaic astronomy assigned to the planets, it gives the correct order of its distancing from the sun.

6 . There are several types of movements:

  • Daytime movement: Caused by the rotation of the earth in 24 hours and not the entire universe.

  • Annual movement of the Sun: Caused by the transfer of the earth around the sun in a year.

  • Monthly movement of the moon around the earth.

  • Planetary Movement: Caused by the composition of the movement itself and that of the earth. The retrogradation of the movement of the planets is only apparent and not a true movement, and it is due to the movement of the earth moving around the Sun.

Main Ideas of Heliocentric Theory :

  • The center of the universe is close to the sun
  • The movements of the celestial bodies are unified, eternal, and circular or composed of different cycles.
  • Stars are bodies that remain fixed and therefore do not rotate around the sun.
  • Orbiting the sun, in order, are the planets Mercury, Venus, Earth and Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn.
  • The distance from the earth to the sun is small compared to the distance to the stars.
  • The earth owns the daily rotation, the annual revolution, and the annual inclination of its axis.

The following model that is presented allows us to observe how the earth revolves around the sun and how, as time passes, the days go by and a period of the calendar is determined, which we know as the months of the calendar.

In addition, the Copermico model was the first astronomical system that offered a complete and detailed vision of how the Universe worked. His model not only solved problems derived from the System, but offered a simplified view of the universe that eliminated the complicated mathematical calculations necessary for the geocentric model to work. Over time the model won defenders influenced to become the most accepted theory of astronomy.

Summary

A revolution implies immediately, a change is for this, the representative of the scientific revolution. It represented the substitution of the existing paradigm of ancient science, which was strongly questioned by the new readings stipulated by the "science theorists" directed primarily by Nicolas Copernico. So much so that this led to strong applications of science as such, in the creation of scientific associations in the order of laboratories, academies, and even scientific communications.

Below is a video where he explains in detail the formulation of the theory of Nicolás permico:
