I was going through a post by @physics-o-mania (you can view the post here) when i remembered something i read a long time ago.
There are usually lots of speculations that there is nothing faster than light.
Scientists think that if anything tries to travel at the speed of light it will eventually gain mass and begin to decelerate making it impossible for anything to travel at the speed of light. But in truth, there are actually lots of things faster than light but scientists find it difficult to believe, maybe because they have not been emperically proven.
Firstly, i will like to start by outlining the different speeds of light in different mediums.
This can be seen in the table below:
Medium | Refractive index | Speed of light |
---|---|---|
Air | 1.00 | 300,000 km/s |
Ice | 1.31 | 229,000 km/s |
Liquid water | 1.33 | 226,000 km/s |
Vegetable oil | 1.47 | 204,000 km/s |
Glass | 1.52 | 197,000 km/s |
Ruby | 1.76 | 170,000 km/s |
Diamond | 2.42 | 124,000 km/s |
Table information gotten from here
Therefore with the variation in the speed of light, we may now want to believe that there are actually a lot of things faster than light (in any medium other than vacuum).
But in this my post i want to talk about INFORMATION.
It have not been proven but there are speculations that information can travel faster than light.
We live in a universe rapidly expanding with a lot of information being dispersed at once.
There are claims that these informations are transmitted a little bit earlier than the light that conveys them. A good example of one of these claims can be seen here.
The post refered to above is simply talking about someone cutting a rope holding a bell and the fact that the information of the bell being cut reaches the brain a little bit faster than when the information was passed.
But i do not see the claim above as feasible because before information can be said to be passed, it must be processed.
With this i can then say that the problem is not with the light but with the processing meaning that the light travels at light speed to deliver the information to the brain but processing the information may not be done at light speed.
With this i hope i have been able to inform and not deform my amiable steemians.
If you found this post informative, kindly encourage me by resteeming and commenting your views on the subject matter. All contributions will be highly appreciated
THANK YOU ESTEEMED STEEMIANS!!!
Nice one! Truly, "information is stimuli that has meaning in some context for its receiver." Information is very very necessary in every area of our lives because through information we get knowledge and through knowledge we get power.
Yes, that is very true. As Francis Bacon will say;
